12 weeks of Maths planning for the Spring Term in Reception (60 lessons). The plans are based on White Rose and Numberblocks approaches and are fully editable, featuring assessment points from Development Matters and continuous provision opportunities.
During the Spring term, we focus on:
Partitioning numbers (using part-whole models and 5 frames; 10 frames)
Number bonds to 5
Exploring numbers 6-10 and splitting them into their smaller parts
Combining and comparing groups (simple addition)
Number bonds to 10
Measuring time

EYFS Maths Planning - White Rose/Numberblocks based - 12 weeks
12 weeks of Maths planning for the Autumn Term in Reception. The plans are based on White Rose and Numberblocks approaches and are fully editable, featuring assessment points from Development Matters and continuous provision opportunities.
We focus mainly on number recognition to 10 in the Autumn term, as well as comparing length and introducing 2D shapes.
The planning features 60 separate Maths sessions, and as such can easily be continued into the Spring term for settings that prefer a different pace or who may choose to repeat sessions for further consolidation.

Initial sound picture spotters - letter p
A picture of a room filled with objects starting with the letter ‘p’ - designed to support phonics development in the Early Years and to make learning fun. “What’s in the sound room today?”

Space Assembly Script - EYFS/KS1
An editable script for a space-themed assembly for younger pupils.
Features two songs for children to sing and 30 separate speaking parts (though these are easily combined should you have children who do not wish to speak).
The basic premise of the assembly is that two children in the class want to go on holiday to space and so listen to some facts about the eight planets to help make their decision. They don’t want to stay on planet Earth because it’s too messy!
In the end they realise that the other planets would not be great holiday destinations because they’re too hot/too cold/too rocky/too smelly! They choose to stay on planet Earth but realise that they have to help to look after it to keep it a nice place to live.
We had great success with this assembly in Reception last year - the children (and parents) loved it - and it’s easily edited to make it work for other classes.

EYFS Pencil Grip Assessment and Name Recognition - Editable Observation Template
A simple template designed for recording children’s ability to recognise their own name, whether they are right or left-handed, and the pencil grip they are currently using. Pictures of types of pencil grip are included to support practitioners’ recording. A PDF version is also included.
EYFS Next Steps document (based on Development Matters Early Learning Goals)
A bank of ‘Next Steps’ statements for EYFS, based on the Early Learning Goals and age band statements from Development Matters. Useful for adding the next steps to observations, as well as for setting targets for parents’ evenings or reports. Designed to help move children on to their ‘next step’ across all 17 areas of learning, as part of teachers’ formative assessment. Also includes Exceeding statements for HA pupils.
EYFS Observations: Examples of high quality observations in the Early Years
A Powerpoint presentation and separate PDF handout notes that explore how to take high quality observations in the Early Years. Useful for staff training or INSET sessions, particularly for teachers new to EYFS or Early Years Practitioners that could benefit from extra guidance.
The presentation details what makes a good quality observation and how observations can reliably inform assessment and provision.
Real examples of EYFS observations from Learning Journals are included with photographic evidence. These observations are then analysed - what makes them good observations? How could they be improved?
