A great way to relieve stress and create a relaxing classroom environment at the end of a long term while helping students embed quotations into their long term memory I have selected 16 key quotations from Christmas Carol and including a relevant image with each quotation that can be coloured in. Students annotate the 16 quotations following the differentiated success criteria and annotate the 16 key quotations for various shades of meaning. 20 Revision flash cards for 20 key quotations in Macbeth that encourage students to explore the impact of the quotations in a thorough and perceptive way. The cards are colour coded to link to assessment objectives A01, A02 and A03 and the methods are underlined. In each I try and ensure the analysis of the method leads directly on to a discussion of Shakespeare’s intentions and big ideas - informed by the Jacobean context. I recommend giving students the blank version first to find out what they can already say about each quotation before sharing the cards so they can identify the gaps in their knowledge.

A grade 9 response analysing Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s relationship. This was an exam question in May 2021. It is formatted to fit neatly onto one page for ease of photocopying. This would achieve a mark in Band 6 because it is a critical, exploratory, well-structured argument which takes a conceptualised approach to the full task supported by a range of judicious references. There is some a fine-grained and insightful analysis of language supported by judicious use of subject terminology. There is a convincing exploration of different perspectives and interpretations.
