Head Start Negative Number Line Vertical

(0)
This negative number line can be used to facilitate learning both in class and at home. Many areas of the curriculum require knowledge of negative numbers including the four operations, real life problems with negative numbers, order of operations and ordering numbers. From my experience, vertical negative number lines can encourage a deeper understanding of the concepts of operations with negative numbers, as well as their application to more real life problems such as temperature, where the scale is usually vertical. Suggested uses: Print out each A4 page and cut out each diagram. Stick each diagram together using the tab to create a large vertical display of negative numbers. Note: Each diagram is around 20cm tall so printing full size will extend over 2m. If this is too large, print 2 pages per page. Head Start Maths - IF THEN Multiplying Up to 12

(0)
This resource is a series of weekly tests on Multiplying up to 12. E.g. If 5 x 6 = 30 … Then 5 x 60 = 300 Description of Activity: Cut out, fold, and glue the weekly test into their book so that each IF… THEN… question can be covered and revealed. Set an appropriate timer. Get students to complete all the IF questions first. Set another, shorter timer. Gets students to complete all the THEN questions. Mark using the provided answers. Students record their mark for each IF question and each THEN question on the marksheet by shading correct answers, or by using two colours. Differentiation: Provide students with a multiplication grid. This will help them complete at most half of the questions and then use their knowledge on multiplying and dividing by 10 to determine the other answers. Set shorter time limits for high ability students (or vice versa for students that need more time) Hints and Tips: A suitable time limit for this resource would be 5-10 minutes. Students can mark their own / their neighbour’s answers.

Create your own spooky ghost Follow the step by step instructions carefully! The instructions are presented as a powerpoint slideshow and as a printable version. Images of every step are provided! The ghost printout could be printed onto card for more rigidity, but a4 paper works fine. Students shouldn’t need more than 50cm of tape. Students may want assistance punching a hole in the top of the ghost so it can hang / float. This could be an individual or pairs activity. For a dramatic finish, use a torch below to light up your spooky ghost!
