This is an investigation into the race position of formula 1 drivers. I have used this on interview lessons with great success. The lesson revolves around substitution into a set of instructions. Then investigating why it doesn't matter where you start from you always get the same finishing line up. Ultimately the top end students will be able to show algebraic proofs to prove it all works, while the lower students will get practice with substitution. A good plenary I use is to get a student to show their proof while the others make sure no mistakes are being made.

This is a 15 questions self answering numeracy treasure hunt. You can start at any question so I tend to get the students to work in pairs then having stuck the questions around the room they start at the nearest question to them physically.
