I am a teaching Deputy Head in a primary school in Hampshire and TES recommended author. I've been teaching in primary since 2007 with experience in most year groups, although my heart lies in Year 1! Consonant clusters are a stumbling block for many children in the phonics screening check. Use these cards and games to support the children in recognising consonant blends and then blending them in words.
You may also have identified in practise that children sometimes reverse letters to create digraphs, e.g. mistakenly reading thrand as tharnd or strok as stork. This resource also practises this scenario through the word builder cards.
I hope they help!

A place value worksheet where the children use given digits to create a 2-digit number that matches a target statement. There are two sheets, the second one provides more of a challenge.
A pictorial problem solving activity for year 1 children. Which combinations of animals will give you the number of feet required? How many different ways are there of making a given number? Picture cards provide visual support for the activity.
Outdoors phonics activity, useful for Phase 4 revision of sounds.
Print off the sound cards and hide around the playground. Children find the sound and the number then return to the supervising adult(s) who uses the checklist to ensure children have the sound correct and to record which sounds they have found.
Looking at the legacy of the Montreal Olympic Stadium, nicknamed 'The Big Mistake&' because of the amount of money poured into it.
Also asks the children to think about the impact on the environment and society.
Includes an activity at the end of creating a legacy for the London 2012 stadium and how to use it creatively and sustainably.
My kids got so involved in this, it really surprised me how motivated and inventive they were - they even carried on in their own spare time!
I put together these revision slides for my less able Year 4s. When it came to maths papers, they persistently forgot 'easy' maths that they could do in class, so we revised them to death with these slides for some easy points on the papers!
Four powerpoints covering the split digraphs o_e, i_e, e_e and u_e.
First slide - revise
Next - teach using 2 examples
Finally - practise using 2 examples
Up to you to decide on the apply stage!
Sorry there are no a_e slides, the children have not encountered ae as a grapheme so it doesn't apply to this strategy for teaching split digraphs!
A silly little story but my class loved it and it helped to highlight and address some misconceptions. Can be used as an intro or in a plenary to look at doubles and halves.
I put together this flyer for parents asking how they can help their children at home. It includes a brief overview of the Phase 5 phonics taught in this term, some ideas for phonics games and also some website address for online phonic games.
I put together a flyer with some Year 1 maths objectives that parents can help their children with at home. There are some maths game/activity ideas and also websites for some online maths games matched to the objectives given.
Use number stories to help children visualise or act out a word problem or calculation. These number stories are based around addition and subtraction. Children are first shown a number story and relates it to a calculation as a model. The process is then turned around and scaffolded as the children are given a calculation and supported in making a number story from the calculation given.
A set of differentiated number sentences is provided which the children can then use with practical equipment, drawings or writing to tell their own number stories.
The children in my year 1 class were hopeless at tidying up at the end of a lesson. I wrote this song to remind then of the tidying up roles and to focus them on the task. It has worked a treat!
(PS Sing to the tune of 'Pop Goes the Weasel&')
These pick and mix ideas for writing give meaningful contexts for children’s writing whilst learning at home. The ideas are open-ended enough that they will be suitable for most primary year groups.
One week’s worth of maths mastery planning for Early Years based on number bonds to 5. The planning includes variation, overlearning for those who need it and opportunities to go deeper for more able children. My TA and I are enjoying teaching maths using this format and the class are enjoying the Numbertime activities. I hope your children enjoy them too!
This free resource includes a week’s worth of maths planning and a hidden number PowerPoint game. All of the printed resources that go with this planning are available as a download for just £3 which you can access here.
