This starts off easy and with a little bit of guidance - then advances through stages to increase the level and could be used for either Functional Skills or GCSE English. Stage 1 needs a couple of commas but I did this in hope students would work it out. mine have been doing great with it.
There are 6 image files with answers. Stage 6 can have varied responses, so there is no number. Some sentences could be ended or continued with a semi-colon, for example
Hope you find it useful - any issues, leave some feedback and I will update.
This is a completely new course set, including my bright and colourful Neon Reading Collection. This will only be half price for a limited time…

A New Spec Qualification Overview PPT (Download for free, from my shop)!
1 x 30 page Reading & Writing Assessment Booklet - 12 assessments, 2 initial assessments and a tracking page. with its own set of PPT slides - including answers for the final Reading assessment.
1 x 30 page Revision Workbook and Matching PPT for delivery.
1 x 20+ page On/Offline Homework Book, covering all these topics!
All but 1 Powerpoint Presentation have at least 1 macro-enabled slide (most have 2-3) - for delivery Online. Let your students take control, in Teams (and other platforms) and let them take the lead with activities. That being the case, they would also be great on touch screens in classroooms, when we are back in them!
Every resource is carefully created with step-by-step animations, to aid delivery and questioning.
This would be ideal for a departmental purchase and share! You could literally provide the link to a brand new/supply teacher and they would be able to deliver on the day…
**Please be aware that these have been created in Microsoft Office 365 - they will work in older versions but the older it gets, the less advanced they will be - in terms of the visuals, transitions and animations. **
This is a session for L 1/2 learners.
The Instruction Writing question has appeared in new spec exams and is one that has puzzled a few teachers, including myself.
Keeping it simple, it covers sentences, some punctuation and has a couple of tasks and examples. One task requires minimising the narrations screen, while the slide show is running, and moving them around to order them. It also has information from the local area - so you may want to update that with instructions of your own. There are brief details in the slide notes.
Created with step-by-step animation, to aid delivery and questioning.
I’ve made it as east to deliver as possible, so I hope people like it.
Please leave a review! It would be much appreciated. =-)
This session has two documents which I’ve created myself - specifically for purpose and generically enough for use with a range of vocational students studying English. The topic: Becoming an Apprentice.
Start with a simple pairs task. Practise determining purpose and tone, locate and summarise main points, compare and synthesise ideas…
It isn’t incredibly detailed but it does work well for reading and writing practice and it has slides with comparative phrasing - which are also A3 posters for display in the classroom. Differences are there just for reference as similarities is where the focus lies. It also shows what level of effort I put into my resources.
Please take a look at my shop - more resources are in which are now fully planned with session briefs and 50% off full year packs!
A free Punctuation book is also available from our partner GCSE English Language shop - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/english-language-punctuation-workbook-and-answer-booklet-12225126
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! This is quite popular but the reviews are limited! Thanks to those who have, already. It is much appreciated. =-)
I didn’t want to just upload this to certain files in my pack - when I’ve literally poured my soul into it and it’s worth sharing, just as an example of how someone approaches planning. It also acts as a detailed catalogue of my recent resources.
It’s a detailed scheme of work document with:
A Lessons Grid
A Mini Lesson Plans Grid with links to assessments and homeworks + images of Learning Outcome slides.
18 Individual, slide-by-slide session breakdowns, with slide screenshots, suggestions for delivery, approximate timings and links to every session in the pack. This is a document that will save me hours of future planning but it will save you more if you decide to purchase the fully planned pack:
https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-functional-skills-english-course-multipack-2-12487021
Imagine being told that you’re being observed and having this to hand. Attach a group profile and that’s all you really need…
There are links to some free sessions wihtin the scheme - give one of them a go…if you like them - consider buying the pack. I absolutely promise value for money!
Another session for FS Reading which links to some of the other sessions in my shop. It covers the basic structures of:
Articles
Letters
Speeches
Emails
Reports
It has formative tasks and is intended as a quick overview/recap session Online. This would depend in which order you deliver Reading and Writing but it can be linked either way. Some tasks are on marco-enabled slides and can be moved on the slideshow - this is great online and would also be good on a touch screen in classrooms. Session plan included.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and, please, check out my other resources. =-)

I thought I’d upload this as another free sample of my work.
This is a session covering Article Writing.
There is a marco-enabled slide, towards the end, which has brief instructions in the slide notes. It has been carefully animated with step-by-step animations which aid delivery and questioning. There is also detailed session plan - with a slide-by-slide set of comments.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Please leave a review! =-)

This session covers narrative account writing and has a number of formative tasks on Marco-enabled slides, which can be moved during the slideshow. It links to the new spec FS quals and has been carefully animated with step-by-step animations to aid delivery.
Made with the intention of using online but would be great on a touch screen, in a classroom, too.
Session plan included.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! =-)

Here is a little free session on Hand-washing and Coronavirus (Covid-19).
Contextually appropriate, this contains two nonfictional sources and is aimed at L1/2 students. It can be used as a revision session or an assessment one and has answers in a powerpoint slide set. The previews on here are a bit rubbish. Download and run the slideshow yourself, to see how it works. The writing also looks better than the preview shows!
Again, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Just a card matcher game/activity - which uses the acronym A DEEP FOREST (with some doubling up of letters for certain features).
It was created to go with this language session which covers much more…including sentences and lists.
There is also, now, an online version which can be displayed or used on platforms, like Teams, and collaborated on. I’ve been using it with multiple students at a time and I’ve sent it to individual students as homework.

Just a quick worksheet, with basic reading questions, that isn’t bad for starting any session, really. Aimed at Entry Level - the questions and text are very easy to complete/access.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
This heavily discounted, deluxe resource pack will only be 53% off for a limited time. It is packed and includes 10+ individual sessions and a 30 page Revision Workbook covering various aspects of both Reading and Writing; relating to the new spec for C&G but can be used widely. Because they’re created for resit students, they are quite dense and whereas I create them for 1.5 and 3hr sessions…one session may last a week.
I’ve also included a fully resourced, intensive 6 week crash course set! Another hefty booklet and matching animated ppt.
As well as a 20+ page On/Offline Homework book which covers all the major topics.
Covers both Reading and Writing:
Discern Titles
Read for Purpose and Mood/Tone
Identify
Interpret
Summarise & Compare (Free - see link)
Fiction and Nonfiction Features
Language and Format
Matching Features to Purpose and Audience
Planning/Writing -
Formal/Informal Letters and Emails

This constitutes a year’s worth of resources, and more, with a mixture of themes and varied documents. With a basic scheme of work, a 30 page revision book which can used as homework or assessment and a full set of assessment tasks in the 6 week crash course book and ppt. There is also, now a 30 page assessment book which I created for my newer set.

Some clearly differentiated, others can be but you have to do that on-the-spot - as in, getting students of differing ability to complete a plan and/or opening, rather than a whole piece of writing (for example).
See individual resources for more details! =-)
Didn’t find much on here by way of Report Writing - so thought I’d put my own together.
Covers informative writing and includes:
Example report written about informative language features and their use.
Informative Language Features
Annotation Task
Task on Facts/Opinions
Planning Exercise
Homework
Actual report writing based on homework completion. Refers, in part, to C&G new spec but could be adapted to fit others easily
This is a macro-enabled, interactive and fully animated powerpoint presentation, using a text from the assessment booklet in my shop on Stonehenge, as a summative assessment tool.
With a number of basic explanations and interactive formative tasks which can be completed independently or in pairs, groups, or as one whole group, this session is planned for 1.5 hours and has some fun elements. It uses images, colours and text, to determine Tone and Mood, some tasks with graphic emojis.
If used with the screen extended to a larger touch display, then macro tasks can be completed as a marketplace task, in pairs or small groups, or with individuals one-by-one.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! =-)

These can be used as starters, bridges, or as part of formative assessment. They can be pasted into other marco-enabled files and they can be sent to students as a slide show which can be completed, saved and returned for assessment.
The text boxes can be moved in the live slideshow, just use the ‘Duplicate’ function and not the ‘Extend’ and they work really well on a touch screen, as well as with a mouse.
Students enjoy them because they can take responsibility, both On and Offline.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! =-)

This Entry 3 session is fully animated and includes an interactive pairs slide, and some fun activities like crafting an origami box…this I did as a group and had to practise the night before! It’s great to challenge students and encourage some team work.
There are formative activities throughout and a Terry Practchett page extract to highlight word classes, on a two-sided A4 hand out.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! =-)

Add the images to your own docs by copying and pasting them. Challenge groups with larger pages or just use as extension tasks. Answers are on separate slides so it can be delivered easily in a class.
A4 & A3 PDFs are also included.
Distribute On or Offline as a starter or extension task. These words can be very confusing, so the more you know - the better your accuracy will be!
