KS2 Area Investigation

(0)
This is a full lesson on investigating area for use within KS2. Perimeter is also recapped at the start of the lesson. To investigate the area, children are given various shapes (pieces of paper) of varying sizes and they are challenged to work out the area with the only knowledge that area is the inside of the shape. An example on the sheet shows that the 10 (length) multiplied by 5 (width) will give an area of 50cm2, but it is up to the children to work out the correct formula. Each of the shapes have been measured and drawn onto an A4 piece of paper (also included). The shapes are differentiated and fall in line with the times tables. Some children are told which shapes to measure where as some children are given free choice. I taught this with a mixed y4/5 class and therefore the worksheets cover both y4 and y5. You could use this activity across KS2.

Kensuke's Kingdom Drama Lesson
MrG2246MrG2246

Kensuke's Kingdom Drama Lesson

(0)
A drama lesson based around Kensuke’s Kingdom by Micheal Morpurgo. My Year 5 class loved this lesson. The children are asked out 2 scenes from the story with the stimulus provided. I used this as part of a diary writing unit for character development so one of the stimulus is a diary entry and the other a video of sailing across the open ocean. Includes powerpoint and resources. Children are to devise/rough plan their scenes first before creating them. One of the planning sheets is more structured to support some children - although I have found using mixed ability groups works well. Children could also use the unstructured support sheet as some groups preferred to mind map, bullet point or write keywords down.
