If you’ve got an open evening coming up you might be wondering how to prepare or what you could offer to those prospective parents. You might already have some resources and be looking for extra activities to put out.
Here is my pack of open evening resources, which I’ve used for years. They always help me ensure prospective students are persuaded to take Sociology.
I’ve included some resources I use for Psychology too as I know many people teach both but these are easily deleted if you don’t need them. Similarly you may need to change a module or two, if you don’t study the same as our students do.
In the bundle is:
My door signs / corridor signs
All of the interactive activities to put around your classroom (this always gives the room a real buzz and helps keep visitors interested and busy while they wait to speak to the teacher.)
A rolling ppt to put on the board for prospective parents and students to read. (you could amend this to add your dept results / entry requirements etc).
As a teacher of over 10 years at an outstanding school, (who has examined and tutored), I have spent time compiling exactly the resources students need to excel in their exams. Now I want to pass these on to you. Whether you are a teacher or student these will help you get ready for the exams.

There is a lot of content to learn in Psychology and it can be difficult to know what important and which evaluation points to use. I’ve done the hard work for you and created this resource to help you know what to learn for this topic.
Full notes: This document contains all of the study notes needed for the topic. If you learn this, you have everything you need to answer any questions, they may set you on this section of the exam. All of the evaluation has been split up into easy chunks, I’ve made it clear by chunking it up into:
A point - the point you are making
Evidence - the study or example to support you
Elaboration – how to explain your point in more detail
Evaluation - a further strength or weakness to help you hit the really hight A/A* grades by showing sustained evaluation.
Throughout I’ve highlighted all the key studies in Blue, so they are easy to spot. These correspond easily with the Key Study Cards and Key Study List (which you can also buy on here) to help you learn all of those pieces of research. I’ve also highlighted the key terms throughout making it easy to ensure you can define all of the key terms on the specification.
Glossary of Key Terms: This is a list of all the key terms for this unit, there are two lists – a blank one for you to fill in as you learn / revise the topic, and a completed one with definitions for each term that you can check your answers against or use to help you understand the language in the Full Notes.

Student Feedback Activities
This download contains two key sheets to help when giving feedback to students:
Student tracking sheet.
DIRT reflection sheet (A4 and A5 versions)
Student tracking sheet.
This sheet lives in student folders. On it they track each test / assessment they do. This is a nice visual log for them to track if they are on target or not. It also helps pupils see clearly how well they are doing in different assessments/ topics. They can also log on this sheet their strengths and areas to improve so that they can track these over different assessments too.
DIRT reflection sheet (A4 and A5 versions)
This sheet can be attached to an assessment or given out when work is given back. Students should be allowed a few minutes to fill this in. This sheet gives them time to think about what they did well / not so well and also gives them space to redo a question / part of a question.
Giving students this DIRT time has been shown to help them learn more from feedback and make greater progress towards their goals.

Excel document set up for you to start tracking all student work.
You can:
Log student names, targets and teaching groups
Identify if students fit in key groups such as SEND or if they have exam access arrangements
Track homework completion
Track folder checks
Log grades from quizzes, tests and mocks.
This spreadsheet does all the hard work of tracking for you, I’ve sorted the formulas and conditional formatting so that you can just input the raw test scores and it will work out most of the hard work for you.
For example:
If you input a score on a test, it will work out the percentage and what this is as a grade (for this it is set to use the harshest AQA Psychology grade boundaries - but you could easily change these to any boundaries you want to use e.g. another subject’s grade boundaries).
It will work out if the student is on, above or below target in each test. It will then colour code this for you so you can visually see if students are on target easily.
When you enter a student as not submitting a homework it will also colour code this orange to enable you to see clearly patterns in missed homework.
As a bonus tab I’ve included a tracker to enable you to remember which tests have been set. I use this whenever I set a past paper. This means I never accidentally set the same test twice.

They take you step by step through each unit to make sure you know exactly what is covered and can be asked about.
they also have space for you to check you have understood and revised the content so you can use them actively when revising.
Never miss any content again with these full topic checklists.
