FOCU S ON ACTI VIT Y: BOARD GAME Simple Present X Present Continuous Tense board game: • Divide the students into pairs or groups of three. • Each group must have a copy of the board game and a set of verb cards. • Each player must throw the dice and make a correct sentence. • When they reach a “verb card” square, pick one card from the pile and make a sentence using that verb in the required tense. • They cannot repeat the sentences. • The first player to reach Finish! is the winner. Taboo is a word guessing party game. Game is very popular with my students and I’ve played it several times, it’s a great way of REVISING VOCABULARY Taboo game motivate your students to speak. This game can be played in pairs or in teams. The first student to play gets a card with a picture (and the guess-word) and a list of forbidden words. The aim of the game is to get the other team or player to say the guess-word on the card without using any of the forbidden words. They can’t use sound effects, gestures or any derivatives from any of the words on the card either. If you want to make the game more fun, you can set a time limit and get the students to guess as many words as possible in the given time.

“Around the World Go Fish” is a fun twist on the classic card game! Players collect sets of 4 cards featuring iconic landmarks and animals from around the globe. Ask your friends for the cards you need, or “Go Fish!” and draw from the pile. The player with the most sets at the end wins! Enjoy this educational and exciting journey around the world! Around the World Go Fish: Quick Rules Goal: Collect sets of 4 cards with the same image. Players: 2 or more Materials: * A deck of 108 cards (27sets of 4 cards each) Setup: * Shuffle the deck and deal 7 cards to each player. * Place the remaining cards face down in a pile. Gameplay: * Players take turns. * On your turn, ask another player if they have a specific card from your hand. Example: “Do you have any Koalas?” * If they have the card, they must give it to you. * If they don’t have the card, you say “Go fish!” and draw a card from the pile. * If you now have 4 of the same card, you lay it down in front of you as a set. * Continue asking for cards and drawing until you have 4 of a kind, or until no cards are left in the draw pile. Winning: * The player with the most sets at the end of the game wins! Variations: * Players can ask for more than one card at a time if they have duplicates. * The player who asks for and successfully receives a card can continue to ask for cards until they fail. * Players can choose to play with fewer card sets to make the game shorter.
