This full lesson PowerPoint will allow you to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lesson on Chemical Cells and Fuel Cells. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers. Please note that this lesson covers the Edexcel Chemistry Paper 1 content on chemical cells and hydrogen fuel cells. “Recall that a chemical cell produces a voltage until one of the reactants is used up” “Recall that in a hydrogen–oxygen fuel cell hydrogen and oxygen are used to produce a voltage and water is the only product” “Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of fuel cells for given uses” This lesson does not cover the Paper 2 content comparing and contrasting hydrogen and petrol as fuels. This PowerPoint is designed to introduce students to Balanced Chemical Equations and links balanced equations with the Law of Conservation of Mass. The lesson is accessible for students, easy to follow for teachers and is required learning for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers. Be aware: this resource is aims to teach students the basics of balancing equations and it assumes no prior knowledge / experience. As such, this content may take a whole lesson to cover with some classes but could be completed very quickly with students who have previous experience of balanced equations. The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers. When doing this lesson, it will benefit students if they have already had some experience of naming equipment and / or drawing scientific diagrams.
