The skills of measuring to the nearest cm and conversion between cms and mms are needed at Critters Creek. Extend the task to drawing specific lengths.
This thematic learning of measuring the length of critters links well to the age range maths objectives. Changing different units of metric measures uses conversion knowledge and the last task requires application of practical drawing skills.
The maths in this task uses skills of calculating the area and perimeter of composite rectangular shapes with missing dimensions and has an extension task.
Peter the groundskeeper at Paultons Park is facing a maths challenge! He needs help finding areas and perimeters of different zones in the Park. He also has to design a new zone fit for the arrival of Ring Tailed Lemurs with a specific area. The open ended task and the extension add to the learning of the skills used at the beginning of this activity.
Paultons pirate ship finds treasures and the coordinates must be read and recorded. Specific points must be plotted on the quadrants (including negative number positions) and movements of the ship have to be followed. Batten down the hatches, Matey!
