I am an experienced English teacher of both Literature and Language, and also Classical Studies at High School level. You will find text-based resources for novels, poetry, plays and film study in my shop for Years 7 - 13. The resources are generic to the text so are suitable for any curriculum. I am also a passionate believer in effective literacy learning hence the emphasis on phonics resources in my shop.

Breaking the Blend phonics game

A neat flashcard game for students who mispronounce blended sounds. Students need to match the cards based on the full beginning blend with its “opposite”, the card with the part of the blend missing. For example, plate = late; brush = rush; branch = ranch. 19 sheets (3 pairs per card), 57 colourful pairs that need to be precut for students.

A fun activity that asks students to look closely at Homer’s description of Calypso’s island. I have used this activity not only as revision of Book 5, but as a way to produce wonderful creative writing. (This activity produces great classroom display material!) Students are asked to design a postcard describing their reaction to Calypso’s island, having taken a cruise ship to see the place. 3 pages outlining the activity; suggesting what to include in the postcard. Postcard template isn’t included.
