This Flashcards Bundle evidences ways in which Shakespeare has highlighted Macbeth as a Tragic Hero (set 1), used the supernatural to develop characters (set 2) and intorduce the theme of guilt and anxiety in the play. (Set 3) Set 1 - The quotes, one from each act evidence ways in which Shakespeare has used the supernatural to develop characters and also to move forward the plot. However, each quote also has relevance to other themes. Set 2 - The quotes, one from each act, evidence ways in which Shakespeare has highlighted Macbeth as a tragic hero. A tragedy play in Shakespeare’s time begins with qualities in a hero that are admired. The hero is loved and there is an element of celebrity and role model. Then a weakness is highlighted and manipulated to bring down the hero with tragic consequences. Set 3 - The quotes, one from each act, evidence ways in which Shakespeare has highlighted the theme of guilt and anxiety in the play.
