New AQA Specification 9-1. Lesson looking at how internal factors affect educational achievement. Covering School ethos, hidden curriculum, streaming/setting/mixed ability, labelling/self-fulfilling prophecy and subcultures including Paul Willis Learning to labour case study.

2 lessons from my introduction to Sociology unit. These two lessons concentrate on the basic knowledge of Functionalism, and introduce Emilie Durkheim and Talcott Parsons. This is therefore suitable to introduce students to these key thinkers, or as a revision lesson.

A lesson that looks at longitudinal studies with a focus on the series seven Up! Students read through a resource and consider why this study is useful before learning about what a longitudinal study is. There is the option to show them the documentary, with some comprehension style questions. The end activity in a knowledge retrieval quiz which is part of the scheme of work.

A lesson that looks at ethical issues, covers experiments in light of what ethical issues they pose and why they are rarely used in Sociological research followed by a consolidation task in which students evaluate all of the research methods covered in the unit. These resources are planned to support students with a walking, talking mock of the Component 2 PSA. This is not used with students who are sitting the PSA as you obviously cannot guide students through these tasks. Each bullet point of the task is explained and suggestions given with regards to which content to include. Students are talked through how to attempt each task, and then given the directed time to complete each task. This Walking Talking Mock is for the September 2023 release.
