This is a multiple choice quiz which I have given to my class at the end of our project on the Tudors and Stuarts to assess their understanding of the topic. It is not meant to be a very serious test, as you will see from some of the answer choices, but is a fun way to end the topic.

This is a timeline looking at major developments during the industrial revolution from 1750 to 1860. Children can cut out the information from the second sheet and stick them onto the timeline, or they can write the information on. You could adapt this by adding inventions and developments particularly relevant to your local area.

I photocopy these sheets back to back, mount them on card and laminate them. I cannot take credit for the idea, but I have used them often over the years. It is a great way to encourage children to reflect upon their work and to help their friends to improve their writing. The idea can be used for any type of creative writing activity.

Romero Britto is a Brazilian artist who creates very colourful and patterned artworks. I have provided an example of a piece of art in his style, using my name. You could ask the class to do their names or to choose words like 'happy', 'friend', etc. Children really enjoy using as many bright colours and patterns as they can. The finished works make a stunning display. I have also included an information poster with an example of Romero Britto's work

This resource includes a powerpoint, highlighting some of the main elements of the Victorian Christmas, three pages of information for children to read before answering the comprehension questions on the third document. I have created this resource for my Year 6 class as a final part of a series of history lessons in the Autumn term, leading up to Christmas.

This resource pack includes a powerpoint presentation, three pages of information about the British Empire, a map to be completed and a series of activities for the children to carry out, showing their understanding of the subject and linking it to the Commonwealth and modern trade practices. I have created this resource for my Year 6 class as a part of a history unit on the Industrial Revolution and the Victorian Era.

These two sheets provide an explanation of how to carry out tests using only the sense of smell with a chart to fill in. I choose 10 different foods and get the children to smell each one. They write down what they think it is and we discover the correct answers at the end of the lesson. I do this activity as part of a project on food and the digestive system.

I used these jigsaw pieces to make up teams within the class. Each member of the group has one piece of the jigsaw. They draw lots of things which are important to them; things that they like to do, their families, their favourite things, etc. My groups were teams of 9, but you could adapt this for your class. It was a nice activity for the beginning of the school year. The finished jigsaws make a colourful display in the classroom.

Once the class have made the different types of rocks using chocolate, they complete this sequencing activity. I recommend that children are reminded to only cut out one type of rock at a time so that they don't get all the pieces muddled up.

Just a simple worksheet for mental maths addition.

This is a template of a picnic basket which can be used for children to plan their own lunch following on from reading The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch. They can either draw the items in their basket or write them depending upon age and ability levels.

I've adapted this experiment from a Scholastic science book. The work is carried out as part of a topic on food, health and hygiene. The children really enjoy looking at the food when it has started going mouldy and can record their results on the chart, either in writing or pictures.

These sheets form part of a project on food and good health. The first sheet provides information about food and what different foods do for your body. The children then have to place different types of food onto the wheel of food and good health. I would recommend photocopying the wheel onto A3 paper so that the pictures of food can be cut out and stuck on in the right place. Alternatively, children can draw pictures of food onto the wheel.

As part of a project on Ancient Egypt the children create an enlargement of this image of Tutankhamun. Number the back of the image in black and white to match the numbers on the coloured picture. Cut out 35 larger squares, (the size will depend on how big you want the final image to be). Give each child in the class a small piece of the image and ask them to recreate it to scale on the large square. The final picture can be painted or coloured. I have also tried a collage version using shiny paper. It makes a really good display in the class and the children enjoy collaborating to produce the final picture.

This worksheet can be used for children to record details about their teeth. The children will need small mirrors to carry out the observations.

These are two simple worksheets which encourage handwriting skills and can then be coloured in. The sheets are differentiated with more complex patterns on one than the other.

This is an activity to cut out and sequence the digestive system. This follows on from whole class work discovering the human digestive system from start to finish.

I usually photocopy this Elmer Template onto A3 paper and allow the children to decorate their Elmer as imaginatively as possible, using bright colours and patterns. When the children have completed their Elmers, I cut them out and they make a lovely classroom display.

This is a test that I have used with Year 5/6 students reviewing many aspects of English grammar that they will have studied during the year.
