Group Talk encourages students to use the language in more casual, conversational settings. Put up a PowerPoint with pictures of various branded snacks, video games, television shows, movies, etc and get the students to use their knowledge of the language along with these crib sheets to engage in debates; expressing their opinions, agreeing and disagreeing with one another.
There are three KS 3 sheets. Level 1 for Year 7, Level 2 for Year 8, Level 3 for Year 9, or can be used most specifically for differentiation within year groups. There is also a higher level, more mature sheet aimed at GCSE students.

Although I have listed these resources under 'displays and posters', I have found it helpful to have a set of each laminated ready to give out to the class when needed. An excellent starter or plenary activity and great training for the new GCSE speaking elements.

This activity was originally designed to be used as a fun way of revising some key GCSE
vocabulary during an Easter School revision session. It can last up to a few hours. Can be used as
an after school session or over the course of a week during lesson time.
We were lucky enough to have access to a library with a large basement beneath it and students
split into two groups and communicated using walkie-talkies provided by the school. This added to
the drama — we had a drama student teacher dressed up as a monster and the students in the
basement used torches to navigate from task to task, trying to complete activities within a given
time or risk one member of the team being ‘caught’ by the monster and given a short time out.
It can be easily adapted to work within a classroom, with the ‘research’ group sitting around a table with
dictionaries, ready to assist the group completing the tasks.
An authentic text on the topic of the invention of a screen which can be rolled up. Pack includes three activities.
Activity 1: English comprehension questions based on text.
Activity 2: A table completion exercise that encourages students to look for links between verbs, nouns and adjectives, based on vocabulary presented in text. For example, when presented with the word ‘creador’, students are asked to find a verb and adjective which link to that word (crear, creativo/creado).
Activity 3: Students design their own invention and write three facts about its use and function in Spanish.
Week-by-week planning for the entire first year of the Viva GCSE Higher textbook (AQA) by Pearson.
