Young people often find it hard to express what they are feeling. They need practice, and guidance.
This booklet has 4 sections, all designed to lead towards greater independence.
Executive Functioning Skills - Snakes & Ladders
This resource, based on the traditional snakes and ladders game, is designed to help young people understand and develop their executive functioning skills.
It allows the young person to play the game while considering a range of questions based around executive functioning.
This has worked very successfully with my students with ADHD, as well as those who need more support with: planning, organising, regulating, task initiation, and so on.

The game is probably best played with an adult, or as a small group (with an adult)

Gratitude Pizza - Understanding Emotions
This resource will help children and young people understand ‘gratitude’.
It is probably more appropriate for younger children but I have used it up to Key Stage 4 (age 16).
It is straightforward. The child matches what they are grateful for to pizza toppings.
This is pretty versatile; you could use it for any emotion.
My Anger & Coping Skills Worksheet
This FREE worksheet can help young people work through what makes them angry.
They draw their own expressions when the go from IRRITATED to FURIOUS.
They then write down what coping skills they use to help them when they feel that way.
This style is better suited to KS3 upwards.
There are 6 designs to use,
I laminate these sheets so that they can be reused.
Surf the Surge - Emotions Activity
This is an activity for older students to help them recognise and understand the intensity of their emotions.
Children map their emotions and their feelings along a tidal wave graph. They can cut out the surfers and stick them to the graph. There is also a space to reflect on their feelings.
