French - Translation of daily routines in Haiti & USA

This is a translation lesson (from French into English) based on the lives of two different children of the same age in Haiti and the United States. The PPT includes a starter activity based on connectives and then looks at where both countries are and then to the two different texts to translate. The worksheet is the two texts. I get my students to write a rough translation on rough paper before copying their final version into their books, along with a copy of the French texts and each flag.

French - Opinions about TV genres card activity

Pupils have cards in pairs and pick up a TV show card, an opinion card and ‘je les trouve’ card, followed by ‘Par contre’ to make sentences. Example: J’adore les dessins animés. Je les trouve très amusants. Par contre, je n’aime pas les documentaires. Je les trouves ennuyeux.

French - 'How to improve your work'

My students stick this sheet into their exercise books at the start of the year for reference throughout the year. It has literacy codes on it, along with some phrases to help the students speak spontaneously (they tally every time they use one of the phrases). Alongside the literacy codes used in students’ work, there are columns for me to tick each term, which means students have to focus on their weakest area (spelling, punctuation, etc.). The ‘STAC’ referred to on the sheet is an assessed piece of work done each term, but this can be deleted/edited as you please.

French A level taster session - new AQA specification

(1)
This bundle of resources includes a PPT to introduce the new French A level from AQA, followed by an activity using a popular song in the French charts. There is also a worksheet to go with the song activity. The booklet is designed to accompany the PPT and includes information about the new A level in French from AQA. Remember, you may need to edit such information as the number of teachers and lessons. This is on page 2. There is reference to resources on Kerboodle as well, which of course will not be relevant to your students, so you may wish to delete/edit these parts.

French - Clothes reading peer homework

In this reading homework, students write questions about the texts (in French or in English, depending on the group's ability) for their partner, who then answers the questions when in class when the homework is due. They then both write a WWW & EBI for each other's answers.

This PPT introduces the vocab necessary for buying an ice cream. It begins with a dice-throwing translation activity, which can be easily edited for your own vocab. There is then a conversation buying ice cream, which students must put into the correct order. Then the vocab is introduced. Finally, students play noughts and crosses in two teams to practise the vocab. Simply click on the relevant O or X when students answer correctly.

In teams, pupils choose a number. Click on the number and reveal a phrase to translate. Whether they are right or not, click on the translation to reveal a score. If their translation was correct, they get the revealed score (good or bad!). If their translation was incorrect, the other team get that score. There are 3 wipeouts (clears their score – positive or negative) and a ‘swap score’. To add your phrases to be translated, select and move the red shapes (the editable translation shapes are underneath).
