This bundle of resources includes a PPT to introduce the new French A level from AQA, followed by an activity using a popular song in the French charts. There is also a worksheet to go with the song activity. The booklet is designed to accompany the PPT and includes information about the new A level in French from AQA. Remember, you may need to edit such information as the number of teachers and lessons. This is on page 2. There is reference to resources on Kerboodle as well, which of course will not be relevant to your students, so you may wish to delete/edit these parts.

Use this PPT to present directions in German. The PPT features an animated arrow, followed of course by the German phrases for the corresponding directions.

Introduce the topic of the train station/la gare, using a lot of imagery and animation! Includes a Blockbusters game at the end, to practise the new vocab.

Use this PPT to introduce school subjects. Start by getting the pupils to identify opinion phrases from the text and then school subjects. Then introduce the school subjects formally using the following slides. Then there's a 'hands up' activity to keep the class on their toes, followed by a simple matching of opinion phrases. Finally, use the Follemathiques activity to add a competitive edge to the lesson.

Give a paper copy of the first slide to each pair of students. They must fill in each rectangle with a word from a certain topic/listening/reading text, etc. Each of the pair has a different coloured pen and takes it in turns to fill in a word. The other pair must check they understand the word before they can fill it in. When this is complete, choose one of the grids on the following slides to show… Reveal each score one at a time by simply clicking – they will reveal one by one in order. Pupils check their total score for the corresponding words. They have the score shown only if they wrote a word in the corresponding box. The player with the highest total for their words is the winner!

Use this PPT to present the rooms of the house in French. Each room on the floor plans is a link to the corresponding slide with the vocab. Click on links to take you to the upstairs floor plan and to the game at the end of the PPT to practise what the students have just learned (Connect 4).

To begin with, pupils are introduced to the new vocab of saying what there is to do in town. Then, pupils raise their hands, according to the activity you mention (right, left or both hands). After this, pupils choose A, B or C to translate (the options are not shown until they choose). It makes translation a little more fun! Finally, pupils translate the sentences about what you can do in town.

Use this PPT to introduce both rooms of the house and areas where people live (countryside, etc.) Items of vocab are colour-coded, accordingly mainly to gender.

I have these cards cut up into their categories and on different colours of card. Each category then has its own mini drawer in a mini storage chest in my classroom (found it on Amazon). More advanced students use the cards to make their own sentences, selecting the categories they wish (pronouns, verbs, etc).

Use this PPT to introduce the weather in German. To start, the weather is shown on a map of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It is worth looking at the patterns of language used here. The patterns are colour-coded. Then the vocab is formally introduced. Following this, pupils must identify the weather in German as it whizzes past.

Use this PPT to teach pupils how to tell the time in French. There is an accompanying worksheet they can complete while doing this. The first few slides recaps on telling the time in English, as some pupils struggle with using an analogue clock to tell the time. After introducing the time in French, practise what they have learned by asking pupils to either shout out the time in French or write the time in words on mini whiteboards.

Use this whole lesson to teach pupils how to give their opinion about different works of art. The PPT slides slowly guide pupils through giving their opinion and finally, pupils write a short paragraph, giving their opinion about the different works studied.

Use this PPT to introduce parts of the body (I've included a lot!). There's a simple introduction to parts of the body to begin with. Then discuss with them what techniques will they use to remember each word. Pupils always come up with some interesting ideas… As long as they work! Then, show the picture before the word to see what they remember. Afterwards, in pairs, pupils take it in turns to throw the dice and then use the clues to complete the sentence (e.g. 'On marche avec...'). Then, go through the grammar point to say where it hurts. Pupils then complete the matching worksheet. To finish, play Connect 4 as a class. Each team takes it in turns to choose a phrase to translate into French. If they’re right, click on the relevant coloured dot to change the colour of the box to their team’s colour. 1 point for 4 in a row and 2 points for 5 in a row.

Use this PPT to introduce the advantages and disadvantages of technology. Start by seeing if students can work out if these are advantages or disadvantages of technology. Students then discuss in pairs how they (could have) worked out the English meaning, using the clues.

Pupils work in teams to come up with 10 items of vocab within the topic area of weather. They write their words down on a piece of paper and give a second copy to the teacher. The idea is to come up with the ‘most obscure’ word (i.e. with the lowest score). Someone must add up each team’s score after their 10 words. The team with the lowest score wins! TIP: Print out a copy of the list on slide 3, so you can cross off the phrases done.

Go through each sound-spelling with the pupils. Then, play Kim's game using words containing the sound-spellings. There is then a Connect 4 game using the same words. The PPT then goes through a display about spontaneous speaking and then finishes with a dictionary challenge.
