Further to the extracts I made on parts 1 and 2 of the novel, these 10 are based on part 3, chapters 40-59. They are also closely modelled on the specimen assessment materials for GCSE 9-1 to provide relevant exam practice and revision.
Based on the sample materials, these 10 extracts supplement my previous Christmas Carol resource, which focusses on different aspects of Scrooge’s character. These 10 extracts look at the ghosts, Fred, Bob, Tim, Belle and Mrs Cratchit and provide useful GCSE (9-1) revision and exam practice.
Based on the GCSE 9-1 sample question provided by the exam board, these 12 exam-style extract questions are designed to provide effective exam practice and revision.
Based on the GCSE 9-1 sample assessment materials, these 15 extracts have both section a) and section b) questions to provide students with focussed exam practice and revision.
Based on the GCSE 9-1 specimen materials, these 10 files have both an extract question from part 3 of the novel, (chapters 40-59) and a general question on the novel in order to provide revision and effective exam practice for students.
Similar to the extracts made on part 1, these 10 extracts, with questions, are taken from part 2 of the novel, (chapters 20-39). They also have additional questions, as in the specimen GCSE 9-1 materials, to provide effective revision and exam practice.
Based on the GCSE 9-1 sample extract question, here are 10 extracts with questions in the style of the sample question, plus a guide sheet on how to tackle the question, and short background notes as revision. These extracts all focus on Scrooge.
Similar to my free resources on Hard Times & Wuthering Heights, here are three more comprehensions: Dracula, Moriarty,(from Sherlock Holmes) & The Mayor of Casterbridge when he was a travelling worker who auctions his wife. They are similar in that there is a mixture of questions: information recall, vocabulary and language analysis. Each editable sheet also has a descriptive writing task. Suggested answers are also provided. These would be useful to prepare students for the demands of GCSE, as homework tasks, exams, tuition or for 13+ exam practice etc
13 extracts from the play, each of around 50 lines, followed by 2 questions, as in the sample paper, to provide exam practice and help with revision for students studying for the Cambridge IGCSE. The sheets can easily be edited if required.
15 key extracts and questions similar in style and structure to the GCSE 9-1 sample question provided by AQA which should provide effective revision and exam practice.
For Eduqas/WJEC, these 34 exam papers have an extract-based question, (but due to copyright no extract,instead there are page and line references from the Penguin paperback edition) There are also 2 additional questions on characters and themes, making 102 questions in all.
This topic has been back in the news with the worry of pupils’ addiction to their phones, leading to anxiety if separated from them. This simple sheet asks pupils to argue their case, giving a few suggested points to consider, a reminder of rhetorical devices to include and reminders about proof-reading. It may be useful to promote discussion, as well as structured writing to argue a case.
A straight-forward comprehension on South Africa’s first black national team rugby captain who led his squad to World Cup victory in Japan in 2019. There are references to apatheid and to Kolisi’s intentions to help his country. Questions include information retrieval, vocabulary and interpretation. There are suggested answers and a descriptive writing task.

Each of these 5 comprehensions has a variety of questions on information recall, vocabulary, language etc, with suggested answers and a choice of three writing tasks. The topics are: The Artful Dodger, Miss Haversham, Miss Murdstone, Mr Bounderby and Marley’s Ghost. They are similar to my free resource on Hard Times
Suggested marks are given too so they may serve as an exam or holiday homework.
These 10 extracts and questions, similar to the samples provided by Edexcel for GCSE 9-1, look at key characters and themes from the novel to provide effective revision and exam practice.
14 extracts from the play, each followed by two questions to provide exam practice and revision for students following the Cambridge Literature IGCSE. The sheets can be edited to allow you to add questions with a different focus if required.
For GCSE 9-1 Literature, the Shakespeare section, here are 15 more extracts from Romeo & Juliet, with questions a) & b), in the style of the 2017 paper. These will provide students with revision in the form of exam practice. The questions are on characters and themes, and feature a range of scenes.

As the text remains in copyright, just the location of the extract is indicated, with one question on the extract, and one on themes and characters in the novel, as in the exam. These are designed to provide exam practice and effective revision for those studying for the Cambridge IGCSE Literature exam.
