A great open-ended and flexible activity that will encourage your class to think and reason about number. Add your chosen number to the poster or get the children to roll 2/3 dice to make a number and then ask them to show you what they know about the naughty number on the wanted poster: e.g. 21 is 10 + 10 + 1, 3 x 7, 30 - 9, 63 ÷3 etc

Curious Science Investigators: Can the children decide which object was used to break the caretaker's window? Powerpoint to introduce activity then you need to set out your objects (e.g. rubber duck, woollen gloves, football, brick etc) for children to investigate using the recording sheet. I extended this activity by inviting the children to become Curious Stem Inventors (label included) by giving them a brown paper bag containing objects such as a lollipop stick, an elastic band, a straw, paperclip, marble, newspaper etc and challenging them to invent! Also included is 'Bend me, Shape me' record sheet to investigate the properties of materials and extension activities.
A fun game played in pairs to reinforce fluency with times tables. Using a paperclip and pencil to make your spinner, children take it in turns to spin 2 numbers and multiply them e.g. 10 x 2 = 20 they then find the answer and claim that square by colouring it in their chosen colour or covering it with a counter. If the square is already covered miss a go! The winner is the player with the most squares at the end of the game.

A very handy and flexible game (played in pairs/groups) which can be played a few different ways:
Option 1: Read it! Roll the dice, choose a word in the corresponding column & read it. If the child is correct they win the word & cover it or colour it.
Option 2: Spell it! Roll the dice, choose a word in the corresponding column, read it, your partner covers it & then the child has a go at spelling it. If the child is correct they win the word & cover it or colour it.
Option 3: Read it, Spell it! I used this for a mixed Y1 and Y2 pairing where Y1's had to read the words and Y2's had to spell the words.
Also included is a table showing all words in the phonics screener since 2011 and a blank game board so you can chop and change words to suit your needs!

A useful resource to encourage children to be confident to have a go at spelling new words. I laminated these cards and each child has their own which they use when writing independently. I developed this resource as part of the dyslexia friendly school award.
