Wild Story Telling - Outdoor Story Writing

(0)
Wild story telling is a great way to let your students’ imaginations run wild as they use natural items they find in your outdoor space to plan and tell their very own wild story. It’s perfect if you’re looking at descriptive language or as a stimulus before they begin to write down their own stories. For this activity they will head outside and collect 6 items that will be used within their story. These items could be imagined into anything from characters in their stories to powerful magical items. Encourage them to collect varied items as this will help when planning their stories. Once they’ve got their 6 items they can either tape or draw one item per box on the activity sheet. They must now think about what their item could be within their story. You can either get them to include the items in chronological order or allow them to use them randomly within the story. Once they’ve planned their story they can get into small groups and use their activity sheet and items to help them as they tell their wild story to others. This activity is designed to be done verbally while in your outdoor area. They can plan their stories either individually or in pairs. The Seed Bomb Company: LITERACY - MATH - SCIENCE

(0)
This is a fantastic topic or project with links to living things, maths, art, and business. Your class will create their very own business selling seed bombs where they’ll need to create their business before making, advertising, and selling their seed bombs. It’s great if you can also find some space for them to test and use the seed bombs themselves. This project is fantastic for developing team skills as well as making their learning relevant and meaningful. **Teaching Structure: ** Read through the instruction sheet explaining that they are going to make a business selling seed bombs. Encourage them to think about the importance of local flowers and the benefits they have on the local wildlife. Put the students into teams of 4 or 5 and get them to mind map their business ideas (name, who they’ll sell to, how they’ll advertise them etc.). The following activities and worksheets can be taught in an order which suites you and your class best. Below we have split them into subject areas which best relate to the activities. **Art / Design: ** Design a logo Packaging design **Science: ** Which Flowers: Research which native flowers would be good to include (you can collect or order seeds online). Make the seed bombs by following the instructions. Optional: Design their own seed bombs by changing or adding to the ingredients used. They can then re-write the instructions on how to make their own seed bombs. You could go a step further and get them to create a TV advert for their seed bombs. **Literacy: ** Seed bomb instructions: Highlight the key features of the instructions. My Seed Bomb instructions: Re-write the seed bomb instructions with their own unique ideas. Advertisement: Students will create a poster for their seed bombs. **Math: ** Cost and profits / sale prices: For these activity sheets students will work out how much it costs to produce the seed bombs, decide how much they will sell them for, and figure out their profits. Sales Report: Students will keep a record of their sales, recording their profits on here. Please don’t forget to rate this resource to let us know what you think. Fact And Opinion Race Cards - Sorting Activity

(0)
This is a fun and active way to get students thinking carefully about the difference between facts and opinions as part of your non-fiction texts topic. This resource contains animal and space themed task cards which the students need to sort into facts and opinions. There are two activities we enjoy using the cards for. Activity 1: Put students into teams of 4 or 5. In an open space, designate an area for facts and an area for opinions. Give each team a pack of cards and make them stand a good distance away from the designated fact / opinion areas (15 meters works nicely). Each team must take the top card and decide whether it’s a fact or opinion. Then one player must run and place the card in the correct zone before running back to their team. Once they’re back at their team they can discuss the next card and the next player can run to put it in the correct zone. Do this until all of the cards are in the correct zones. Activity 2: Designate an area for facts and an area for opinions (two sides of a playground work well). As you read out the task cards the students must decide whether it’s a fact or opinion and run to the correct area. If you want to turn this into a game, the last student to the correct zone is out. Christmas Treasure Map – Instruction Writing

Christmas Treasure Map – Instruction Writing

(0)
This is a fun Christmas themed Literacy activity where your students will write treasure map instructions for their partner to find the Christmas present. This activity works great at the end of term where you can give a little gift to each child to put in the present they hide and write instructions for. Teaching Structure: Give each child (or get them to make) a small box for them to decorate and put either a small note with a Christmas message or a gift you’ve provided inside. Explain that they’re going to hide the present outside and then write a set of instructions for their partner to follow, find, and unwrap. At this point it’s good to give an example of some instructions giving simple directions, demonstrating how clear and detailed they need to be. E.g. Walk forwards 10 steps. Turn right and walk to the big tree. Get the students to hide their present then come back to a designated starting point and begin to write their instructions. Once all of the instructions are finished, they can swap with their partner and try to find the gift. Extension: Get the student to draw a map to go along with their instructions. **Equipment needed: ** Activity pack Small box (or card for the students to make their own). The Rain Project: Cross-Curricular Activities

(0)
Rain is great fun and no reason to stop outdoor learning. This pack contains cross curricular resources and activities that you can do in the rain. So put those waterproofs on and enjoy the rain! This resource includes science, literacy, and math activities for ages 7 - 10. Activities included: Rain Description: Children will go outside and use adjectives, similes and metaphors to describe what they can see, hear, feel and touch. Rain poetry: Children will use their descriptions to write a poem about the rain. It’s great if they can do this outside using a whiteboard or scrap paper before writing it up in neat inside. Rain Gauge Investigation: For this investigation children will design and build their own rain gauge to record the amount of rainfall over a decided period of time. It’s good to give children the chance to experiment with their ideas, however you may need to give them some guidance. We find this investigation works best when done in teams of 3 or 4. You can use these teams to provide differentiation and support by using mixed ability groups. Once they’ve collected their rainfall data they can then answer some questions based on their results as well as input their results into a line graph. Puddle Size: This activity is all about measuring using diameters, radius, and perimeter. Children will find 5 puddles to measure, recording their results onto a line graph before answering some questions on their results. Vibrant Rain: This activity is all about the colors of nature. Children will find different colored natural items, crush them with stones, and use the colors to create some rain art. It’s best to print this activity sheet on card so that it does not get too soggy when using the damp natural resources to paint with.

This poetry scrapbook is the perfect way to get your class exploring the outdoors while letting their creative juices flow in the form of poetry. This scrapbook gives the children the opportunity to write acrostic, quatrain, and couplet poems along with another, which they can choose. Debating is a great way to get students thinking creatively about persuasive language. For this activity students will go and find the most interesting item they can from your outdoor space and write a list of points as to why their item is the best using their persuasive language techniques. Once they have put together a strong argument they can then get into groups of 3 or 4 and have a debate about whose item is the best. Ozone Layer Depletion Video Comprehension - Sustainability

Ozone Layer Depletion Video Comprehension - Sustainability

(0)
This video comprehension takes a look at the ozone layer and its depletion. Your students will watch a video where they will learn about what the ozone layer is as well as what is damaging it and the issues that this has on life on Earth before answering a set of questions about what they’ve just seen. This pack contains 3 levels of differentiation as well as an extension activity where they will draw a diagram to show how the ozone layer works. What is video comprehension? Our video comprehension series is designed to facilitate the learning of those students who find reading tricky. It allows them to access the same level of learning without the need to read large amounts of information as they will watch a video on the topic rather than reading large amounts of text. We have found it especially helpful with our SEN students. Each set is differentiated three times. With the first level of differentiation requiring them to simply circle the correct answers. These worksheets work best if each student has their own device as they can re-watch parts of the video to find the correct answers. However if you don’t have one device per students or pair we have done this with great success by having the video on repeat on the board / tv at the front of the classroom. These activities are also perfect for home and distance learning. We are constantly expanding our range of video comprehension worksheets so be sure to check back frequently for new resources.
