Double-sided worksheet preparing pupils to write/talk about what they like to do on holiday. Side 1: They unjumble some simple model sentences. Then fill in Me encanta/Se puede/Me gusta opinions with appropriate infinitives. Side 2: They read 3 short texts about three people like to do on holiday, then answer 4 comprehension questions in English about them. Then they Find the Spanish for six useful phrases. FAMILY RELATIONSHIPs. You could base a whole lesson around these resources (or set them for homework/revision). Contains: A slide with a ‘mosaic writing’ activity (credit to Gianfranco Conti for this idea): i.e. Pupils are given a short paragraph in English about family relationships and have to construct a Spanish translation from the words provided in the grid. A worksheet with various tasks designed to build up/practise key vocabulary to do with this topic. The idea is that the gap-fill task can be completed purely by using words drawn from the first text - in other words, pupils are identifying and recycling the relevant language. Likewise the Translation sentences at the bottom can be done using vocabulary from elsewhere on the worksheet. Ideas for further exploiting the worksheet You can exploit the texts on the worksheet in other ways. E.g. spot the adjectives. Re-write one of the texts changing the underlined parts (teacher could project the texts onto board with some phrases underlined) to say something else, verbally or in writing e.g. alternative adjectives, different verbs, different family member words. Plenary with mini-whiteboard sentences to translate based purely on words and phrases from the text (or incorporating prior knowledge too for stronger classes). Reading texts aloud for pronunciation practice. Translate the first text. etc etc.

Double-sided worksheet to prepare GCSE students to build up vocabulary to write about the kind of holiday they usually go on and why (=giving and justifying opinions). Side 1: They complete some model sentences, then fill in some opinions with Me gusta/Me interesa (to practise gusta/gustan) Side 2: They read three model paragraphs about preferred holidays and then Find the Spanish for a number of useful phrases in the texts. They then use all of the worksheet to help them translate 6 sentences into Spanish, e.g. I love beach holidays because I think that they are relaxing and I like watersports. A lesson on saying what you have to/must do to stay healthy, e.g. Tienes que comer fruta y verdura Hay que hacer ejercicio Full lesson including put-pieces-of-paper-together-to-create sentences activity, dice speaking game, mini-whiteboard activity. Also accompanying worksheet (page 2 of the worksheet is the sentence-building activity template for pupils to cut out).

Lesson on saying what you’ve done recently to be healthy. I did this toward the end of the Healthy Living topic, once key vocab on exercise and healthy eating had been covered, and once we had re-capped the Perfect Tense (with avoir) Starter : match the French time phrases to the English **Gap-fill activity: ** for mini-whiteboards and/or books: fill in the correct verb form or past participle Trapdoor game: Students love this. Pupils take turns to read through the passage with a partner, choosing options each time from the list. Their partner must read it back from memory; if they go wrong they have to go back to the start. Then swap roles. I model this first so pupils have to listen then I choose one to read back what I said. Then, to make it harder, there is a version with some words and letters taken away, so pupils are not just reading from the screen but have to remember the phrases.

This worksheet has two sides: one with a 150-word environment question, with a model answer to highlight, dissect and analyse (to give students ideas for their own writing) second side gives a 90-word environment question, with an inadequate sample answer for them to analyse, annotate and improve in pairs Students found this useful to prepare to write their own answer to an GCSE question on the environment. Took up a good chunk of the lesson.

Double-sided worksheet Parallel texts on “Me, my family and friends” (personal descriptions, relationships, marriage, etc) English text facing the Spanish. Some words in bold in both texts to aid students’ following of the texts I’ve tried to include a number of the trickier words from the AQA specification vocab list on this topic. Pupils use the translation to fill in gaps in both the English and the Spanish. On page 2 there are sentences to translate based on vocab from the texts, plus Spanish comprehension questions & some extension tasks.

A Powerpoint practising key verbs to do with technology & mobile phones, with tasks to get pupils to put them into the Present Tense. Also a ‘mosaic translation’ worksheet activity where pupils translate sentences about the pros and cons of technology using the words provided in the grid (Google Translate-proof!)

For the KS5 'Racismo' sub-topic. The double-sided worksheet contains two tasks: 1) An introductory gap-fill activity (text summarising what SOS Racismo is and does) 2) An audio-visual activity where students watch a video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi1Xm0sqYr0 ) then answer the 11 accompanying questions. To complete task 2, pupils must watch a Youtube video of an interview with the president of SOS Racismo, who gives examples of racism, including his own experience, and some measures for combatting it. The video gives various other facts about racism in Spain. I would recommend that you reduce the speed of the video to 75% by selecting the Settings icon at the bottom of the video (not available on some tablet apps but visible on PCs), then clicking Speed > 0.75 PLEASE CHECK that the video is still available before downloading the worksheet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi1Xm0sqYr0 This sheet will probably take up most of the lesson by the time you have watched the video twice (pausing it to give students a chance to write), gone through the answers and discussed the issues raised.
