The children are challenged to estimate the ‘actual size’ of animals body part e.g. giant ostrich eye before measuring using the book as a prompt.

Continents Sorting Pics
Pictures of landmarks, animals, habitats, physical and human features of different continents for the children to sort.
I used them as a start of unit assessment, for the children to predict where the pictures were from and reason.

KS1 Wright Brothers Sources
An activity using a selection of sources about the Wright Brothers and a table to begin to use sources to gather evidence about a historical event.
I printed the different sources and put them on different tables around the room then told the children that there were a range of different sources that provide clues as to what happened on 17 December 1903.
Give the children a magnifying glass. Tell them that they are to go around to each source and use their inference skills to find clues about what might have happened.

A Science Investigation with a focus on using the sense of taste.
The children were blind-folded and asked to taste test Jack’s magic beans (skittles, smarties etc) - differentiated sheets to make predictions and record results.

The children listened to different vehicle sounds and predicted if they could hear the king’s carriage approaching.
