Big believer in the power of beautiful lesson plans to make learning easier. My resources cover the sciences and geography. My biochemistry degree and tuition work I do mean I create resources for a lot of courses as and when I need a resource-always feel free to comment and request something if you want something else or an adaptation. PET scan worksheet, Edexcel 9-1 GCSE biology and physics

(0)
Two-page worksheet and mark scheme on the use of positron emission tomography scans in medical imaging of the brain and cancer, a topic on the current Edexcel biology GCSE, with a range of diagrams, pictures and links to recommended videos. The worksheet is also suitable for teaching in physics as a case study. Worksheet assumes a bit of basic knowledge of radioactivity and gamma rays (safety precautions, hazards) so may be worth coordinating with physics that those topics have been covered, although it’s only at a common sense level of knowledge. A version of the worksheet converted to black and white is included too. Specification reference: brain and spinal cord problems, B2.11B and B2.12B, higher tier.

Worksheet covering the types of radioactivity over two pages. Questions on alpha, beta and gamma radiation, nuclear decay and equations and half-life. There’s a wide range of pictures and diagrams to jog students’ memory and the mark scheme includes links to videos of emitters from the IOP. This worksheet is especially targeted for the Edexcel 9-1 science physics GCSE, although it could also be used for most other physics GCSE or secondary-level courses (I have versions for other exam boards). A version converted to black and white is included.

Worksheet covering the types of radioactivity over two pages. Questions on alpha, beta and gamma radiation, nuclear decay, neutron emission and half-life. There’s a wide range of pictures and diagrams to jog students’ memory and the mark scheme includes links to videos of emitters from the IOP. This worksheet is especially targeted for the OCR 9-1 21st century science physics GCSE, although it could also be used for any other physics GCSE or secondary-level course. A version converted to black and white is included. (Update, 21/2/24: a misprint for the mass of alpha particles in the mark scheme has been corrected; my apologies about this.)

AQA radioactivity types worksheet, 9-1 GCSE

Worksheet covering the types of radioactivity over two pages. Questions on alpha, beta and gamma radiation, nuclear decay, neutron emission and half-life. Based on review of past paper questions, I’ve found knowing exactly what blocks different types of radiation is a key topic for practice and there’s a lot of questions on this. There’s a wide range of pictures and diagrams to jog students’ memory, and I mention alternative ways of writing the decay equations. This worksheet is especially targeted for the AQA 9-1 physics GCSE, although it could also be used for any other physics GCSE or secondary-level course. A version converted to black and white is included. Model answers are based on collation of many past paper questions, giving extensive exam tips. Want to know exactly what definition of gamma radiation AQA want? It’s on page 2 of the mark scheme. 2024 updates: links to videos of emitters from the IOP and using beta particles are included on the mark scheme and a wrong number for charge has been corrected.

Wave speed, frequency and wavelength worksheet, AQA 9-1 GCSE physics

Worksheet covering wave speed, frequency, and wavelength, on two pages, targeted for AQA 9-1 GCSE physics. Intended to provide a graduated scheme of work from definitions to calculations of wavelength, frequency, wave speed, period, longitudinal and transverse waves. There’s diagrams and power triangles for the two core equations for the student to practice using and a mark scheme. Particularly suitable for 1:1 tuition. Questions consulted include 8463/2H 2021 Q5, 84652H 2020 Q5 and 8464/P/2H Q3. Update, June 2024: following feedback from students, I decided that including unit conversions in the worksheet made calculations too long, so removed this, also put power triangles on both sides of the worksheet to make them easier to find.

Edexcel GCSE series and parallel circuit notes and worksheet

(0)
Notes and worksheet on series and parallel circuits covering voltage, current and resistance for the Edexcel 9-1 GCSE. There’s a version filled in for revision and a blank worksheet for students to fill in themselves. The notes aim to put all on one page all the rules of potential difference, current and resistance for series and parallel circuits, something students have a lot of trouble managing. In particular, it shows the way that the rules of series and parallel circuits for current and PD are opposite to one another, something also stressed in a “how do I remember all this?” guide at the bottom. A power triangle for Ohm’s law is also included to help students know what calculation to do. These notes should be suitable also for teaching OCR Gateway GCSE physics. Please note that this set of notes isn’t needed for Edexcel international GCSE which doesn’t go as far into the topic.

What does "per" mean? Worked example mathematics stories

Explanation of what “per” means: that it means you need to divide. Two stories are given as examples. Suitable for primary school maths and science. Because people have a lot of trouble learning this, this could be useful across a lot of ages, KS1, KS2, KS3 or weaker GCSE students who need a bit of help.

Notes with diagrams and video links on the Rutherford/Geiger/Marsden gold foil experiment. Explains the plum pudding model, why they used alpha particles, what Rutherford expected and finishes with a bullet point list of features of the modern view of the atom. Covering one page, the notes are suitable for GCSE physics and particularly targeted at AQA GCSE physics. It could also be used for OCR Gateway GCSE chemistry and physics and Edexcel 9-1 physics.

Ideal gas law notes, unit conversion diagrams and worked example

(0)
Worksheet as a reminder of how the ideal gas law works, showing all the unit conversions and with a model calculation. Also includes a diagram of why a cubic metre = 1 million cubic centimetres, something students often have trouble with. Suitable for all A-level chemistry and 16+ exam boards e.g. AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Cambridge. The assumptions the ideal gas law makes are also explained.
