The infographic could be used as staff training: what does each image mean? There is a sentence generator and a mat for teaching new items of vocabulary which I have seen elsewhere in various forms. September 26th - it's European Day of Languages. Gap fill and match up activities, focusing on the spellings of the languages and matching them to the countries.

There are forty sentences here, with 90 mistakes to find and correct. A full key is provided. This will make a good starting point for some SPAG activities, or provide a nice little filler activity. ** Note**: it looks a bit strange on the preview, but it’s fine when downloaded.

Well, it is what it is. A ws to practise the past simple tense for EAL students. Useful as a homework sheet? All the verbs needed are in the blue column and they can be used more than once. Cut the column off for more advanced students.

36 micro readings. On sheet one, they put the verb in the right place. On pages 2 and 3, they put the stem into the past simple and then put in the right place. After that, look, cover, write and check. You can just leave them with the picture prompts for this. For EAL students.

This is designed for EAL learners, but is useful as a prompt for debate in the mainstream classroom. The arguments and counter arguments are presented as exercises: match-up, replace the words and re-arrange the words. Urban legend, adapted from the internet. The story is on the first slide, then there are various activities: visuals for Splat, or Q &A session; true or false/put the story in sequential order/guidelines for a hot seat and ideas on how to teach the story. My aim is to get the students to produce a recount.

Plastic pollution was highlighted recently in ‘The Blue Planet’. This is a reading passage with questions, a vocabulary study, prompts for discussion and they have to rearange the sentences to get advice on what you can do to help. Key included.

I went on a course called 'Grammar for Writing.' The idea is that you teach the grammar, use the correct terms, but disguise the fact that you are teaching grammar. In this ppt, I aim to teach adverbs by asking the students to supply the opposite terms.

This is a powerpoint of 52 slides. I uploaded it previously to test the waters as I was going to charge for it. From 23 views, it got 21 downloads! I was pleased. Since then, I have done nothing to make it sale-worthy, like checking image derivation and one or 2 layouts that are not really mine. However, I have faffed about with fancy borders and stuff to make it look presentable. Time to let this go live! So - there are youtube clips with exercises, match-ups, comprehensions, picture description, making inferences, games… All sorts! I hope you can use it and I hope to get a few reviews:-)

A reading passage with true or false exercise and the students are asked to list all the words used instead of 'said.' If you use this worksheet you might like to do the E test with your class first. What it is is explained on the ws and there is a link to an article about it. (It's a personality test).

Here are some slides to complement the extract and exercises on boxing in the WJEC GCSE English and English Language Higher Level course book, pages 62, 63 and 64. There are anagrams of keywords to do with boxing, true and false on the passage on Spencer Oliver (p.62) match up the opposite words, the pros and cons of boxing and a look at keywords. Some of my group have got EAL and need this kind of differentiation.

This is a sorting activity. Put the words into the right category. There are some proper nouns included.

I made this for my Yr 7 Nurture group, for fun literacy starters. There are 27 slides, comprising 25 activities. No photocopying necessary - all activities can be done from the board. There is a variety of lexical activities: anagrams; match-ups; gap fills; error correction; find the hidden words; sentence formation; supply the adjectives and adverbs; replace the missing vowels and more. I have used a frame from fppt.com.
