I have used this task at the start of a revision session with my KS4 pupils. Pupils have the definitions of the 15 main command words used by AQA and have to match up the definitions with the command words.
Answers are included.
PDF is purely a copy of the Word document.
I have also included the command words which I have pupils stick in the front of their exercise books.
AQA OXFORD GEOGRAPHY TEXTBOOK NEEDED FOR THIS LESSON
Lesson taken from pages 54 and 55 of the Oxford Texbook looking at how does change effect ecosystems.
Decision making exercise looking at flood zoning. "Town Planners"
Pupils are to decide where several aspects of the town should be built in relation to a river that has been known to flood. Pupils have to justify how they have planned the town.
Used with a Year 7 mixed ability set. The river document was printed on A3 paper and pupils had to draw on the scale of past flood levels. They also cut and stuck their decisions around their town.

Starter: Sequence the formation of a sea stack.
Main: How is material transported - Salutation, Traction, Suspension, Solution - pupils to draw diagrams into books and explain how the material is being moved.
Longshore Drift - explain process, drawn into book.
Plenary: What would happen if longshore drift continued? - linked to depositional features.

Definition grids of key terms used within each topic of the new GCSE course. I will be using as a starter activity to recap previous learning, or within revision lessons to ensure pupils know what key terms mean. They can either be printed or shown using a projector/smart board. Answers are included in the notes section of the Powerpoint.
There are definition grids for paper 1 and paper 2 topics including: tectonic hazards, weather hazards, climate change, ecosystems, tropical rainforests, hot deserts, river landscapes, coastal landscapes, the urban world, urban change in the UK, sustainable urban development, the development gap, a newly emerging economy, the changing UK economy, resource management and energy management.
This resource can be easily adapted if you study a different optional topic.
Each PowerPoint slide contains 5 Geography general knowledge questions. The first 9 slides focus on Britain and the next 4 are worldwide Geography. Answers are included. I usually have this slide on the board when I am going around checking homework to try and increase pupils general Geography knowledge who will answer the questions in the back of their books I will then go over the answers and pupils are scored out of 5.

Starter: A bridge between two continents video of Iceland. What is happening here? how are the plates moving?
Building on prior knowledge, pupils to identify the different ways in which plates can move.
Main Task: Pupils are to use information sheets to label diagrams of the different plate margins.

Starter: Imagine you are going on a journey from the North to South Pole - how would the places you visit change as you travel.
Pupils are using information cards to complete a carousel activity of the 8 different types of biomes.

18 questions to be displayed around the classroom - not the typical "geography questions", examples: Which is the only city to be located in two continents? Which county in the UK has two coasts? Which country has the most volcanoes? Which country has the highest life expectancy? How many Great Lakes are there in the North America?
My intention is to have the pages printed back to back on A4 (obviously only get pages 2-37 printed not the first page), on card and in colour and the page folded therefore the question is on the top and you open it to reveal the answer (I am going to use velcro dots also).
Revision booklet for pupils to complete independently on the topic of Tropical Rainforests from Paper 1 Section B using their exercise books/ textbooks. (Page numbers relate to blue Oxford University Press Textbook). Case study included is Deforestation in Malaysia.

Here is my greatly loved and appreciated country of the month display.
Each month I focus on one country around the world. The countries included are: Mexico, Peru, Mongolia, Italy, Iceland, Portugal, Nepal, Uganda, Qatar, Russia, Japan, South Korea.
For each country there is the name of the country, 5 facts about the country and the country’s flag. This is displayed around my world map.
I often get pupils asking what country is next, or wondering where the country is and encouraging them to use an atlas to locate it they frequently comment or ask about the facts displayed.

The lesson examines the causes and the effects of cliff collapse.

Starter activity using peoples opinion of wind power - who do you most agree with?
Card sort activity / worksheet whereby information is categorised into facts and statistics surrounding wind power, advantages or disadvantages.
