This differentiated choice board will give your students the opportunity to learn about digital citizenship as well as practicing the 4 C’s (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication) . My students had great fun while doing this activity. You may do it in a different way but I allowed them to choose the task they want to work on and their partners to promote student voice and choice in the classroom. The activities in the first row (horizontal) are for groups of three, in the middle row for students who want to work individually, and the ones in the final row are for the students who want to work in pairs. You can assign the tasks in the middle row for a pair of low achievers in order to enhance collaboration as they are relatively easier and shorter. Here is a great resource for the refugee week. It includes texts, videos, games, graphic organizers, reflection forms, a creative writing activity and a project. There are two rubrics: one for the creative writing activity and another one for the project. You can use it either as a distance learning resource or in the classroom. I have added Word and PDF versions so that you can make changes in it if you want. I also gave the link to the Google document that you can share with your students at the top of the Word and PDF versions.

This resource can be used with learners at all ages including ESL and ELL . It includes two videos and a lyrics listening and gap filling activity. The writing activities will enhance both critical thinking and language skills of the learners. The journal writing activity is great for character education and teaching values. There is also a Google slides version with more detailed activities.

By using this comprehensive inquiry-based guide, you can analyze any novel or short story using Harvard Project Zero Visible Thinking Routines and reading strategies. It includes 3 projects with rubrics, 3 writing tasks, and 20 different activities, most of which include Visible Thinking Routines. Other than Visible Thinking Routines, there are cooperative learning activities such as expert groups, gallery walk, Socratic discussions. There are also formative assessment tasks at the end of each project. I used Trudy Ludwig’s short novel, Just Kidding but you can use them with any text on bullying with the exception of one activity: Reading response journal. The questions in this activity are about the novel. You can use similar questions about the text you are using. It will take you one month to complete all the tasks and projects in the guide, but if you do not have enough time, you can omit some of them. You can also differentiate them by assigning them to different groups of students. You can use it either digitally as there is a Google Drive link in Notes to the Teacher section or as a hard copy if your students do not have devices.
