Reading skill - Identifying the main idea (Powerpoint, first activity, mastery activity)

(0)
The powerpoint introduces pupils to this skill including why it is important. There is an example which models the first activity well. The first activity is differentiated for higher and lower ability pupils. The mastery activity has less scaffolding and again is differentiated two ways. Finally there is an application booklet which has test style questions based on this reading skill.

3-digit addition and subtraction - mastery and greater depth

(0)
All the activities focus on adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers using the formal written method. The mastery activity requires children to decide for themselves whether to add or subtract and includes fun concepts such as Match Attax. It is available in two versions (stickers or plain A4) There are two more challenging or ‘Greater Depth’ activities for children who are secure at mastery level. These require more reasoning skills to solve the problems

A powerpoint explaining what Martin Luther King did after his famous 'I have a dream speech’ Focuses on Selma, including some original pictures and footage so may be more suitable for upper Key Stage 2 and above. I personally did not show the full video clip I just selected a part that I thought was suitable. I do not own any of the images or videos linked in this powerpoint

Rivers - Pollution (link to playscript writing)

Presentation goes through the different causes of river pollution and the environmental impact. The main activity is linked to play script writing in English as children are asked to create a TV advert about river pollution. These could be performed in a drama lesson. Please note I do not own any of the images used in this powerpoint.

Moves onto air pollution causes and effects, finishing with a link to a video clip discussing the London Smog. I used the activity sheet for children to write down three effects of noise pollution. English - Develop characters through action and dialogue

(0)
A great activity to help children think about different types of characters and how they would react in different situations. This can provide a stimulus for writing narratives or playscripts. The starter is a group activity where children match dialogue and action to a well-known character. The powerpoint looks at this in a little more depth. The main activity gives children 4 different characters. Children need to imagine they just crash landed in a jungle and come up with dialogue and an action for each one. Please note I do not own any of the images used in these resources.

Reasoning problem, working systematically - Find all possibilities for Homer's doughnuts

(0)
A fantastic reasoning activity that helps children improve their problem solving and ability to work systematically. The problem starts with 3 objects and moves on to four. There is also an opportunity for more able children to make predictions for 5 and 6 objects and then test their theories. Very able children may make connections such as once you find all the possibilities for one starting object, you can multiply this by the total number of objects for the number of possibilities altogether.
