Numicon Gotham city - numbers 1-5 - Match the shapes to Numicon

Numicon is a great resource to help children understand the meaning of numbers. The idea with this resource is for children to match the silhouette of ‘buildings’ to the Numicon on the side of the screen. The game then tells them if they got it right as that Numicon forms in the correct position or if they got it wrong using a Batman GIF. This resource was designed for children to access independently while I sit with a guided group during their independent learning time. They can access it via a whiteboard. This Powerpoint/game helps children recognise and learn numbers 1-5.

Phase 2 and 3 phonics sound mats - Alphablocks in A3, A4 and A5 format

Sound mats are priceless when helping young children to remember the sounds they need to write in words. A quick reminder of how the sound is formed is usually all it takes for the child to carry on with their work instead of being stuck. I have included the A3 version, which I use as part of a display, the A4 version, which I don’t actually use but I have in the past for visually impaired children so they have a larger copy and the A5 version. Both the A4 and A5 versions I like to laminate back to back so they are both together for the children. Tricky words are also included on each. I also tend to place ‘me’ and ‘my’ together as this is something children do tend to get mixed up with.

Alphablocks - CVC word families 'en' and 'et' match to picture game - phonics

Children love Alphablocks and they are brilliant at helping young kids learn to read. I have found using these instantly recognisable characters in class help children on their initial journey of learning to read. In this game, that children can access independently on the board, children have the word family ‘en’ or ‘et’ endings already shown on screen. This is surrounded by five pictures, so when an Alphablock friend joins the ‘en’ or ‘et’ to make a word, the child needs to read this and click on the correct picture that matches the word. The game indicates if they make the right choice but also if they have done it wrong. They cannot move to the next picture until they click on the correct initial sound. At the end of the game it then cycles back to the beginning so you do not have to keep getting up to restart it too. Its a lovely addition to your enhanced learning environment during literacy lessons or phonics activities.

Numberblocks missing number children's independent game - 1-10 - The legend of Big Tum

(0)
This independent game has been made to use alongside the Numberblocks episode ‘The Legend of Big Tum’, where the Numberblocks meet a mysterious big hairy monster with a big hairy tummy who loves puzzles. They work together to work out who is in Big Tum’s tum! It teaches children how to find missing numbers with the Numberblocks . This is a powerpoint based game that I created to put on the interactive whiteboard for them to play independently. It is for numbers 1-10 and the children can click which number they think is in Big Tum’s tum. It will then take them to a screen to tell them if they are correct or not. If they are incorrect they then go back to try again but if they are correct they go onto the next missing number. The game will cycle back to the beginning once all the numbers are done. At the start I have included the first part of the Numberblocks episode too to give the children an idea of what they must do.

Numberblocks missing number children's peg boards - 1-10 - The legend of Big Tum

These are peg boards. You can print these out, laminate them but you need some pegs with numbers 1-10 to compliment this resource. The children should indicate which number is missing by placing the right numbered peg on top of Big Tum. These were made to go a long side the Powerpoint versions/games I created to place on the interactive whiteboard, so the children have two independent games they can get on with while I was leading a guided group activity.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears - Goal CVC words independent game - powerpoint

(0)
This powerpoint/indpendent game matches the resource I made with bottle tops. The idea is that the child has to click on the correct letter sounds to make a CVC word. The powerpoint is set up to tell them if they got it wrong (a goalie saves the kick) or right, when the ball is kicked into the goal. Words like hot, yum, bed are used for the words that are all phase 2 words (and phase 3 with the y). Children can access this resource independently and is great for anyone who loves football. Reading is a ‘silent’ process for many children. When first learning they do not possess the ability to imagine what the written word is telling us. They have many, many other skills they have to master before they can get there. This resource is aimed at beginner readers to try and put some fun into reading and creating words. The picture cards are double should be double backed so they have a picture on one side that they can make a word to match it or they have the actual word they can copy. With a picture to help young children visualise what they are reading, they have a purpose to reading it too and not just going through the motions. This resource is designed to be used independently, but can obviously be used as a teaching aid too.

Simple addition using part, part, whole mats to 10 - Right and wrong answers - Powerpoint

This is designed on a simple problem solving. Children have to work out if the number sentences are right or wrong. They click on the tick or cross to indicate if ‘Mr Jones’ is right what he says about the addition shown using the part, part, whole mats. The powerpoint shows the cubes being placed together. The powerpoint game indicates if the children choose the correct answer and will not let them pass onto the next until they do. There is a set of 10 questions for the children to have a go at and then it cycles back to the first question. Children can access this game independently or it could be used as a teaching aid.
