Students are then separated into 5 mixed ability teams and instructions are read out about the task ahead. Each team is to research a chosen individual, complete a worksheet (per student) and then organise themselves ready to present their key individual to the rest of the class in the form of a drama performance.

Lesson on Egyptian society. Students start by discussing democracy in the UK. Students are then assigned a role within the Egyptian social pyramid (11 roles in all) and they are to go around the classroom and interact with other students as their character. Students will then complete the worksheet highlighting the responsibilities of each role, the benefits and the drawbacks. Students will then debate how Ancient Egypt might have been if democracy had been introduced but will argue from the point of their character.

Students will look at Belgian resistance here with a source analysis task. Students will then move on towards the origins of trench warfare with the race to the sea before looking at Russian involvement on Germany’s Eastern Front. This lesson ends with a source analysis question based on early Russian dominance against the Austro-Hungarians.
