For my lesson two sets periodic table cards were cut up and laminated (2 different colours helps if they get mixed up!) One set was given out to the students and I kept the other and for that lesson students were picked at random for questioning using their element symbol. Their element then became their homework - researching their element.
Here is a lesson ppt and a load of fact sheets that I have found or made. These along with the adverts were laminated and used during a revision session
Whole class activity works brilliantly. Have the class sit in a circle around a football suspended from the celing. Shine a lamp on it and each student draws onto a circular piece of black sugar paper with chalk the shape moon that they can see.

This resource is differentiated by task and also by time to be spent on each.
Red activities = hardest,
Orange = medium demand
Green = easy
The stars represent the time to be spent on each ( I change this depending on the ability of the group/ student e.g. each star represents 2 minutes)
I usually display on the board and students work on A3 or print for lower ability classes.
I made these information cards to use with year 7, 8 and 9. I have previously used them for modelling cells and linking the adaptations of cells to their functions.
