Cherchez l'erreur - Identify and correct common mistakes in French

(0)
Cherchez l'erreur - Identify and correct common mistakes in French ⇨ 50 French sentences with grammatical errors ⇨ English translations of what the French sentences are SUPPOSED to mean ⇨ Students look for the mistakes and rewrite the sentences correctly ⇨ Audio recording - Hear English sentences to be translated, pause to translate and speak response, listen and repeat correct French translation read twice to improve fluency and pronunciation ⇨ Teacher support guide - 21 pages of notes about each of the 50 sentences to help teachers explain to students why the sentences are incorrect As you teach French, do you find that over the years you hear students making the same kinds of grammar mistakes over and over again? English speaking students in particular often make the same kinds of mistakes. Here are just a few examples of common mistakes I've heard time and again over the last 20 years teaching French: ⭐ Je voudrais un verre de l'eau avec glaçons. ⭐ On aime des pommes et des bananes. ⭐ J'arrive chez toi autour de 17h00. ⭐ Nous sommes sur l'avion déjà. ⭐ Tu attends pour le bus? ⭐ Je pense de ton problème. ⭐ Nous nous lavons nos mains. ⭐ Je la donne un cadeau. You've probably seen the same kinds of mistakes with your students. Very often, mistakes that are made go back to basic French that wasn't mastered when it was introduced for the first time. This activity offers an excellent opportunity to revisit lots of basic grammar that otherwise often gets ignored as we progress through the chapters and more advanced grammar. I like to use this kind of activity at back to school for returning students or at the end of a quarter or semester as a solid review. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box. ➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements. ➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer. ➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards. ➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included. ➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move. ➤ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays. ➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building.

Qui suis-je? Interactive activity for advanced French students

(0)
Qui suis-je? Interactive activity for advanced secondary French students 75 cards with detailed descriptions of common nouns using higher level French Use cards to have students work in pairs or small groups. Use PDF with one card per page to project and use as a whole class activity. Cards feature detailed descriptions for students to read and have others guess the noun that has been described. Higher level grammar and vocabulary used in descriptions helps more advanced students get more exposure to grammar in context while having a lot of fun! While it is good to have students come up with their own descriptive sentences in French, sometimes it’s just as great to have them read descriptions aloud to each other. Students will see advanced grammar in use and will understand new vocabulary words through context. This is a unique way to improve when students have already been exposed to a lot of grammar. Here are a few examples: Les voyageurs m’aiment beaucoup parce que je suis très utile quand on veut parcourir de longues distances. On ne me conduit pas. On me pilote. Qui suis-je? **Je suis un avion! ** J’existe pour aider les gens qui ne voient pas très bien. Ils me posent sur leur nez. J’ai deux verres pour les aider à mieux voir. Qui suis-je? **Je suis les lunettes! ** This resource can be used over and over, and since there are so many cards you will have plenty of variety. The grammar varies from card to card, so you can easily pick and choose which ones you would like to use for different levels. La maison - French 20 questions games - No prep printable speaking activities The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in these 4 versions of the game, students will learn over 200 nouns that go way beyond what they learn from a textbook chapter theme about house and home. The words in the game include rooms in a house, different kinds of housing, parts of a house, common household and garden items and more. These games will work for any level as they are written in French and English. Want a real challenge for your upper levels or immersion students? Use the French only versions! Included: 4 versions with vocabulary written in French and English 4 versions with vocabulary written in French only Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity. Each version includes 52 words. Many of the words will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words. After they’ve played the games a few times looking at the French-English version they feel more prepared to move on to the French only version. One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word. EST-CE QUE……. … tu es une personne? … tu es un animal? … tu es un minéral? … tu es un endroit? … tu es un aliment? … tu es une plante? … tu es un objet? The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT Alternative game play: To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.
