This is a knowledge organiser for Theme A. It summarises the main contrasting views, key words, and lists a selection of references to Biblical sources.

All about contraception, looking at the different kinds and why some are seen as acceptable and others not. Again the focus is on Christianity because of the diversity of views. Lots of opportunities to make links to prior learning and the idea of God’s intention in creation as a basis for moral decision making.

This lesson follows the Church’s response to worldwide poverty following the AQA textbook. I have put a few questions throughout but the bulk of the lesson was designed to be an information retrieval/into a mind map activity - easily adaptable to carousel or group work. There are information sheets for each of the charities they can research.

This is a shorter lesson that introduces the practices and explores the first of the 5 pillars, the Shahadah

I focus the majority of this unit on Christianity as there is enough diversity to fulfill the exam requirements. However, it does still include Islam when appropriate. This lesson contains lots of information slides, ideal for home learning/revision. Easily adaptable into active learning strategies for your teaching style.

This lesson explores Christian attitudes to sex (there is enough diversity to cover exam requirements) it goes behind the scenes to look at the idea of complimentary pairs in creation. I really wanted to help students understand that when some Christians disagree with homosexuality it isn’t necessarily the case that they are homophobic, but rather that their world view doesn’t sustain the idea of homosexuality and so it places them in a difficult position, choosing between what they believe are eternal principles and what modern society expects. I find this helps students to understand the diversity of views. there are exam questions included.

This is a game I've created for my year 11's. They've been struggling with keywords so this is a fun activity that can be played multiple times with them. There are differing levels of rules so can allow for differentiation as well. The cards have been created so that you can print them double sided and the tiles will match up (or print and photocopy 1sided - 2 sided and it should work) I recommend laminating and printing each set of different colour paper. There are about 27 words in total. The rules in short are, Spread the cards out across your table with the keyword facing up Each player takes it in turn to select a card and guess the definition of the word. If the player guesses correctly with the reverse of the card they keep the card and add it to their pile. If they are incorrect the leave the card to the table and put back 3 cards from their hand. This lesson is all about reconciliation and follows the AQA textbook. I have punctuated the lesson with various questions including some exam style ones. As with all my powerpoints, key words are colour coded in blue boxes, key quotes in yellow.

This is a bit shorter than my normal lessons, it does touch on some high level concepts but what you will probably find is that many of your students will already come with ideas on the topic. When I did this with year 9 they just wanted to talk and talk and ask lots of questions and they really enjoyed the more philosophy side of it. Consequently the lesson leans more to class discussion and you can insert many debate activities in, if you have time.
