A revision sheet on how to format different types of text that the learner might have to write in their English Functional Skills exam. These can also be cut and laminated and used as revision cards.

A ten page revision guide that helps learners to understand how to pass their test. P2 Explains the marking criteria and what learners need to include in their writing in order to pass the assessment There is a guide on how to correctly format the following: letters, emails, articles, reviews and reports. I have also provided picture examples on how each text should be formatted. Learners are then given tips on how to ‘bulk out’ their writing by using word association. A practice exam question ‘scenario’ is given. It also includes a visual step by step guide on how to use word association to generate ideas.

A good refreser / lesson stater on this subject. This is a 22 page PPT on figurative language devices. A short task is also provided on the last slide. This is an introduction that tells pupils what a PEE paragraph is and provides a step-by-step guide on how to answer a question using the PEE paragraph technique. 13 page PPT with four different tasks based on extracts from the first chapter of Gangsta Granny. 32X cards that can be used to revise figurative language / persuasive language techniques including: Similes Metaphors Alliteration Onomatopoeia Idiom Oxymoron Sarcasm Irony Direct Address Facts Opinions Rhetorical Question Repetition Emotive Language Statistics Triples ( Rule of Three) There are statements on 2X cards each, which use one of the techniques above. These cards were created so that my learners could play a ‘match a pair’ game. Turn all of the cards over on the table. Get the learners to take it in turns to turn over two cards, if the statements match the technique then they ‘win’ that pair of cards. If they don’t match, then they turn them back over and another player gets to choose two cards. Continue until all the cards are matched. These can also be used as flash cards or revision cards and the cards are double sided, with a colourful polka dot design on the opposite side. Also attached, are a set of cards ( buyer to cut out) with each of the following persuasive devices names written on them. You can get your learners to place the correct statement cards under each of these headings.
