This lesson is an overview of the story of Ernest Shackleton and the crew of the Endurance during their two years trapped in the wilderness of the Antarctic. The story is told with the aid of a timeline of the expedition in the medium of a Prezi - similar to a Powerpoint presentation but a lot more fun! An explanation of a Prezi and how it works is contained in the Teacher print.
19 pages
The lesson contains;
1. A Prezi (120mb) which contains 11 slides that tell the story visually, with humorous speech bubbles, and full narration. The last part contains a short video of a journal entry from a fictional member of the crew.
2. A pdf file of materials to use with students, including;
a. A one page text outlining the story.
b. Learning materials for new vocabulary.
c. Listening and reading comprehension quizzes.
d. A journal writing exercise.
e. Page link to the Prezi (Can be viewed online or downloaded)
f. Page link to a short animated video.
3. A full set of teachers notes and explanation on how to open and use the Prezi along with a contact e.mail for enquiries.
A comic book style resource about Shackleton and the Endurance is also available on my teacher store here;

This is a twelve page comic book version of Ernest Shackleton's expedition to Antarctica aboard the Endurance. It is an adaptation of journal entries from the days around the time of the destruction of the Endurance by ice floes. The language has been edited to appeal to learners of ESL/EFL or it can be used as an introduction to the topic for younger readers. The images used for this are taken from an animated video which will be published shortly.
The comic consists of four journal entries and this version also contains a set of questions based on the text with an answer page and simple map of Antarctica. It is meant as an alternative introduction to the story for which there are many full size novels available.
#Important: The strange characters that replace word spaces in the product view here are an artifact of this site. The PDF downloads do not have this problem. If you are concerned about this, please download my free product which suffers from the same viewing problem here:

1. There are three versions of the comic. A PDF full color version, a low resolution easy to print version and an ePUB version that can be used in slideshow mode on a computer or tablet.
2. There is a student work print containing two vocabulary tasks on words taken from the comic book. There are two essay prompts for expansion work including writing a fictional dictioanry entry from the Endurance and another for researching the topic of courage and endurance.
3. A short answer sheet for the work print.
4. A teacher print with an explanation of the resource and its use. This also contains links for several websites that contain further background and resources for a more in depth look at the story.
