A resource linking topic work on the Farm to literacy. There are 4 black and white sheets for children to name the animals and things you might find on a farm and label them. The same sheets are duplicated in colour. There are 2 sheets asking children to draw or cut and paste animals or things they might find on the farm.

This is an activity where children collect up objects and test them with magnets to see if they are magnetic. There is a poster showing a collection of objects for testing and a template poster for you or the children to use to draw or write in. You could use a kitchen drawer divider to make your collections in for testing. There is a collection of 18 pictures of everyday objects that children can collect and test. The pictures can be cut out and used for sorting, pasting and discussion. There are 2 recording sheets, 1 where the children can make lists and 1 for children to paste the pictures onto under the headings YES and NO.

Children can tick off the things they find. There are 10 things to find. There is a page of simple riddles that go with each picture and provide clues. You can choose to use these or not depending on your children and their abilities. Use real objects if available for your scavenger hunt, or soft toys e.g squirrel and snowman. Alternatively, or as well as, cut out the large flashcards, laminate and tie/tape these up around the outside area for children to find. A useful end of year assembly or / and class resource about Transition. This is a good discussion to find out about any anxieties your children may have about Transition, Moving On or Change such as moving to a new class / year group or school. Flashcards include the animals in the story, the food on the shopping list, characters and ordinal numbers. These cards can be used in a range of ways such as matching up the animals with the foods, sequencing the story, ordering the numbers - the cards can also enhance any display work.
