A lesson focusing on introducing lower ability students to implicit and explicit information and reading the opening of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. Designed to develop students’ ability to identify and examine implicit meanings, the lesson offers simple definitions and then a group activity to strengthen the grasp of implicit meanings before reading the opening two pages of the novel focusing on George and Lenny’s relationship. Aimed at and successfully taught to lower ability KS3 but could be used with lower ability KS4 or with SEND students.

A lesson exploring Jane Weir’s poem Poppies, taken from the AQA Literature Power and Conflict anthology. A lesson created to practice research skills and use of technology in the classroom. Access to laptops, desktops or iPads will be needed to complete this political research lesson that examines both the Conservative party and the Labour party. Extension task is attached to further understanding. Lesson could be used as a one off/PSCHE or as part of an extended project.

This resource is a lecture style lesson focusing on the theme of Victorian Fear, linking in particular to Conan Doyle’s Sign of Four. This resource was created in order to cover the more complex themes in the novel and is aimed at HA students predicted at 7-9 on AQA GCSE literature. A detailed resource used to introduce the historical and literary context of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The starter is a knowledge recap task, drawing on existing knowledge from the students. A quick consolidation task for AQA literature AO3 is included. This is followed by a video provided by the National Theatre examining Mary Shelley’s life briefly. Then a detailed examination of how context plays a part in the opening of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Created for higher ability KS4 and for the AQA literature GCSE. All resources provided.

A resource based on chapter 3 (Royal & General) from the novel Stormbreaker. The lesson is part of a reading scheme and contains; a Frayer model examining the word “curious", discussion questions on the chapter title and relevant comprehension questions for the chapter. This lesson also has a PEAL paragraph question to go through with the class. Aimed at mixed ability KS3, all resources are attached and ready for delivery.
