I have worked with many children over the years that have been SEN identified that are actually slow learners. The curriculum demands a lot from these children and their teachers. So I am trying to create “Active Learning Sheets” that can be used by all abilities to encourage independence. These will give plenty of practice of key skills as well as learning the key elements of the curriculum without having to take time out of the classroom. I try to use real life examples for imagery.

This activity is intended to allow children to correctly spell when labelling a plant. Allowing children to label by sounding can file the wrong spelling in their brain and they never break out of the bad habit.

An easy to copy spelling check list that accompanies KS1 Science. So often children are expected to try to spell these words which then stick wrongly in their memories. They need to be given the words to copy for later accuracy.

A fun method to get children of all ages to produce a descriptive piece of writing. EYFS can draw pictures to show their choice and try to annotate them. Older children can write in simple or more complex sentences.
