PP Assembly on Easter: 2020 Years Ago

(1)
This assembly would suit both Primary and Secondary students. A very versatile number here as you can see from the title. It includes the following: 2 Videos, 2 Bible readings, a Prayer, Final inspiring thought and a Call to action. **Music suggestions: * Seconds - Human League, or Death Was Arrested - NorthPoint Inside Out, or King of Rome-PetShop Boys, or Rhianna -We Found Love but many others would suit. (See You Tube) * TALKS Introduction To Assembly In 1950 C. S. Lewis wrote The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a fantasy novel for children. Most of the novel is set in Narnia, a land of talking animals and mythical creatures that is ruled by the evil White Witch. In the frame story, four English children are relocated to a large, old country house following a wartime evacuation. The youngest, Lucy, visits Narnia three times via the magic of a wardrobe in a spare room. Lucy’s three siblings are with her on her third visit to Narnia. In Narnia, the siblings seem fit to fulfill an old prophecy and find themselves adventuring to save Narnia and their own lives. The lion Aslan gives his life to save one of the children; he later rises from the dead……… Who Was C. S. Lewis and Why Did He Write This Book? Clive Staples Lewis (29 November 1898 – 22 November 1963) was a British writer and lay theologian. He held academic positions in English literature at both Oxford University (Magdalen College, 1925–1954) and Cambridge University (Magdalene College, 1954–1963). He is best known for his works of fiction, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy According to Lewis’s memoir Surprised by Joy, he was baptised in the Church of Ireland, but fell away from his faith during adolescence. Lewis returned to Anglicanism at the age of 32, owing to the influence of Tolkien and other friends, and he became an “ordinary layman of the Church of England”.[2] Lewis’s faith profoundly affected his work, and his wartime radio broadcasts on the subject of Christianity brought him wide praise. Lewis wrote more than 30 books[3] which have been translated into more than 30 languages and have sold millions of copies. Lewis wrote the book for (and dedicated it to) his goddaughter, Lucy Barfield. She was the daughter of Owen Barfield, Lewis’s friend, teacher, adviser, and trustee.[4] In 2003, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was ranked ninth on the BBC’s The Big Read poll.[5] Time magazine included the novel in its list of the 100 Best Young-Adult Books of All Time.[6] Check out my blog: brighterwindows.blogspot.com for further inspiration.; e.g. A Lenten Journey in 2020, Should We Give Up Choc for Lent? PP Assembly on Judging Others

‘Judge not according to appearance’ JOHN 7 V24 This is an assembly that was designed for Secondary pupils but would also suit older primary students. For music I recommend Republica: ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ and a few other more recent numbers- see PP I have also included links to relevant stories and short films that you can include to make it a longer assembly. I think it is a great confidence booster and you could easily link the Greek masks on the title slide with the selfie craze! It is the perfect antidote to the selfie craze! It is also the perfect antidote to abuses of social media websites and trolling! Please leave me some feedback as to how you use it!

Here’s a very versatile assembly on Ash Wednesday that is primarily for Secondary students but would also suit older Primary students. Students are invited to reflect on where they are going on their Lenten journey. **The key questions it answers are: (1) What has Ash Wednesday to do with Christ and the Bible? (2) Why do we put ash on people’s heads? (3) How should we celebrate Ash Wednesday today? ** Email me for further help If you want some inspiration for Lent see- brighterwindows.blogspot.com Here I deal with the question:** Should You Give Up Chocolate For Lent?** And 'A Lenten Journey For 2020’

PP Assembly: Rich or Poor : What Am I? (Oscars March 4th )

Useful assembly on the Rich and Poor; especially around the time of a big celebrity event such as the film Oscars: 4th March 2018, on which this assembly is based, which clearly showcases the exclusive lifestyle of the Rich and Famous. Very topical this year with Harvey Winestein and Kevin Spacey’s public shaming still being very much in the Media Intro asking assembly pupils to look at photos of Spacey or Weinstein and identify the industry that has made them rich. You could go on to talk about why they have been in the news with older students. Or indeed a short news clip of the 2018 Oscars- see You Tube. Tell pupils briefly what the Oscars are all about Introduce the 2015Oscar Goodie bag of $160, 000- see Telegraph article online: What’s in the $160,000 Oscars 2015 goody bag? - Telegraph . or the 2016 bag You choose or amalgamate. The assembly encourages pupils to see that all that glitters is indeed not gold by contrasting the items in the Oscar goody bag with items you really need to make you happy. Second week of March, then, here’s the zeitgeist assembly for you! Now lay the table and get the wine out! Please leave me a review or feedback telling me how you used this resource and why
PP Assembly on Reconciliation

PP Assembly on Reconciliation

This assembly would suit both Primary and Secondary students. It would be useful after a bullying spate. Pupils write and take part in the roleplays that can form the central part of the assembly It makes the point that reconciliation is based on the premise that if we want forgiveness then we must offer it to others and this is a normal part of any relationship. The assembly can also be used without the roleplays so very adaptable. It is structured as follows: Why is reconciliation important? Why don’t we forgive one another? How can we make up after quarreling? It includes the following: Choice of inspiring story A choice of short films on forgiveness- You Tube links given Two spiritual quotes on forgiveness Prayer on the theme Final thought Call to action Please leave me a review or feedback telling me how you used this resource and why

SIX LESSONS OF HARVEST This is a Power Point assembly for harvest that is suitable for Secondary School or upper Primary. It would suit all religious faiths and can easily be adapted. It includes a You Tube link to a harvest film showing that it is not an isolated activity that farmers do in September but a culmination of 12 months of planning, hard work and love. This then becomes the theme of the assembly:**** six lessons we can learn from harvest: Believe in yourself, Be patient, Respect your world, Work hard, teamwork gets results Give thanks and give back.**** (1) Music suggestions: ‘Sowing The Seeds of Love’. : Sting: Fields of Gold or to be traditional ‘We Plough the Fields and Scatter’ or even ‘Harvest Moon’ * (2) Video: You Tube: Pay It Forward Acts of Kindness included. (3) Bible reading (4) Final thought (5) Call to action* Pour yourself a large glass and chill! Feedback would be nice. Any probs drop me an email.
