A stand alone lesson to describe Professor Jelly from the story as description - with pictures and a level to aim at for the children (coloured) and a criteria - My year 4`s loved this book and the lessons I did with them on this - I hope you enjoy it too and any queries do be in touch !
A powerpoint on how to change words from nouns or adjectives to verbs with progressive activity sheet to build upon children knowledge with whiteboard activity also !
Worked very well with my mixed age Key Stage 2 class ! Hope it is of some use to you too!
Please find the guided reading inference lesson attached - This I did for an interview just last week and got the job as class teacher ! I had a small class of 15 children mixed ages from Years 3 -6 evenly split across the 3 tables and this lesson lasted for 30minutes.
On each table I put a pair of boots, a picture/photo sheet , a piece of text as you will see from the powerpoint then a set of bronze, silver and gold level questions. The children had just over 5 minutes to look at the picture, look at the object and read the text followed by answering the questions. This was accessible to all and the questions were harder in each level - after 5 minutes they then took the question sheet with them and went to the next table and repeated the process. After 15 minutes or so I stopped them as they had all then completed the 3 tables of inference work and brought the children to the carpet. I then talked through my plenary questions on the person as the powerpoint. The children then completed the little feedback slip on my lesson.
Both the Headteacher and governors really liked the lesson, as did the children and I have subsequently got the job !
Although it is based on me and my interests it could easily be adapted to suit anyone and encourage the children to play detectives for a change from the usual guided reading carosuel style activity - I feel this is a great lesson and great resource and would be a great revision tool in preparation for SATS particularly for Year 6 or just a different reading activity as I say for younger children. Any queries or questions do ask !!
A bundle of lessons and pack of activties etc for a study in English of the popular story There`s a Pharoah in our Bath by Jeremy Strong - over 12 ideas, lessons, comprehension ideas and Big writing including story, diary and newspaper article work - these can be edited or adapted to suit your classes and goes from chapter 1 (including comprehension activties) that could be used for guided reading sessions - This will save you a lot of work and could easily be used for a half term of lessons or beyond also includes a drama lesson - This would be idea for someone new to the topic and used in conjuction with the topic of Ancient Egypt - A great bundle ! Any questions queries etc do ask !
A powerpoint file and video link for an assembly on Courage - This then has a link to the Channel 4`s trailer for the paralympic games from 2016 - I have done this for an assistant head post (interview day etc and the governor and deputy head thought this was truly inspirational for the children to think about themselves and others - The overarching theme being " I can " A powerful message with a prayer also at the end !
Do enjoy !
There`s a Pharoah in our bath themed lesson 1 - ask it game style lesson ideal for an introduction to the text and topic of Ancient Egypt - easily accessible and a fantastic resource for anyone new to this book ! Do look at my other resources on this as this is great short book but will do for a half term or beyond !

Great for that Monday morning when you run out of ideas !!
An ASK IT lesson game to be completed in pairs on A3/A4 paper. The example used as a Reading/English lesson at the beginning of the new book or new unit - ideal for new term and fits great with World War II theme - This example can be adapted to fit any text however - children loved this lesson, child centred approach and gets them really thinking about what they are reading - Modelled on the RIC approach and can easily be adpapted to suit all levels from Year 3 and upwards -
A short powerpoint on drawing hands to then replicate and build upon to draw the Iron man hand escaping from the trap -
I did this with a year 3 class who to be fair stuck at it well and we created some great pieces of work -This would be great to do over 2-3 weeks as I did to support them I would perhaps show them a video on the drawing of hands also - Great lesson though for an afternoon to focus on theme - Art and DT - feel free to use as you see fit for your class whilst studying the Iron man !
The Iron man newspaper report lesson with attached resources and information through this Powerpoint - The children found it very helpful in conjunction with the class text of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes - really great report writing was completed particulary by year 4 with regard to this - Enjoy !!
A Robin Hood comprehension activity that is a general comprehension with levelled activities attached- This I have done with my mixed aged (Year 3-Year 6) class with great success pitching the more able children at which ever activity is suitable to them like the mild, chilli, spicy, hot, very hot approach with children progressing at their own pace - this is a stand alone lesson but would fit ideally with reading and legends and myths as a class and has intitiated great discussion and debate as many of the class are fully aware of the legend of Robin Hood !
I hope this helps and is ideal as I say for a one off lesson !
An ideal Powerpoint and stand alone lesson to introduce the story The Iron Man by Ted Hughes - A fantastic activity to get the children ( Y3,4,5) to ask questions about the text working in pairs or bigger groups. It worked really well if the question sheet was printed off in A3 - discuss with them the type of question they could ask and which one they would get more information on e.g open rather than closed type of question.
Although not the start of book it proved successful to get the class thinking about the new text - enjoy !!
A stand alone Iron Man lesson with a BBC link to the video of him at the top of the cliff - A great build up lesson for the class to describe him using their senses and feelings and then write an extended piece on as the 3 colours which are at three levels.
Feel free to use and enjoy the children I have done this with in 3 different schools have really found it useful and enjoyed the lesson,
Another Iron Man resource with this time a modelled piece for the children by me and attached resources in the Powerpoint
I wrote this with little pictures of the Iron Man at the top of the kids books - choice of colours to add which level of work they wish to complete also - this is I believe a typical 80-20 lesson with the kids doing the 80 !!
A great Powerpoint to continue the story from where the Iron Man landed at the foot of the cliff - this to be used in conjunction with the class book The Iron Man by Ted Hughes - I have also modelled an example of mine to give them an idea of what and how to write rather than a balank page . The lesson went very well for a longer write and planning session
An Iron man opener resource with written example for the class to read also ! They found this very useful for a lead in ! Plenary attached also to evaluate their own work - do find it of some use !
Transition leaflet for the new term - ideal for key stage 2 however will fit for younger ones to - feel free to edit as you see fit - Great starting point to build from and also have discussion and engagement from for your new class !!
Harry Potter letter of persuasion lesson ( hopefully the video clip is in the PPT also ! ) Staged and structured with an example of mine included to show the children what I expected in the lesson - This is then self levelled when they write with the coloured areas different levels of ability included also ! The year 6`s who I taught this to responsed really well to this lesson and liked it stimulus and structure ! great writing also came about with it ! Enjoy and I hope this helps !
A study on Galileo related to science and Space and discoveries ideas etc - then once the children have seen and watched this they write this up as a study as a class - all were really engaged and would suit years 4 and 5 well - great for something a bit different to !
Maths starter ideal for year 3 and 4 - I found this a great way to engage the class as they came in from break or lunch and is a great settling activity to get them on task
A super way to start the day also !
