A full differentiated lesson based on the new AQA (B4.9) SOW. The lesson covers environments and their relation to transpiration. The lesson the progresses to discuss photosynthesis, temperature, humidity (etc.) and their impact on transpiration. A video is used to introduce how plants are adapted to hot, dry climates and mechanisms of controlling water loss are introduced. A differentiated question grid is then used to apply student learning and conduct AFL. The use of the potometer is then discussed prior to another video and a final past paper question. The plenary is based on the students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives. All answers to written tasks are incorporated into the slides and timers are included to promote pace.

A full lesson based on the Activate 2 (P3.1) SOW but can be used for others. This lesson covers the units of speed, how to calculate speed, distance and time. Student understanding is checked with a simple calculation table and answers are peer/self assessed. The lesson then moves onto averages speed vs. instantaneous speed and relative motion. A differentiated question grid challenge is then used to apply learning and facilitate AFL for peer/self marking. The practical activity involves students calculating the speed of a toy car down a ramp, which can be divided into 5 sections to facilitate the calculation of instantaneous speed within each section. The plenary is based on the students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives.

A full 1h lesson based on the activate 2 'metals and water' topic. The lesson incorporates a demonstration of group 1 metals reacting with water, alongside a reaction of magnesium and steam. If you are uncomfortable doing this videos can be used as an alternative. Prediction and equation writing is planned ahead of these demonstrations - students are scaffolded up to this. Students produce a mnemonic to remember the reactivity series and test their learning through a simple ( but fun) planner card activity. A great lesson to 'promote a love of learning' .

Energy in different food products are compared by the students with questions and a DART activity to check for understanding. The energy requirements of different activities are then compared prior to a discussion on the balance of energy. Students then take part in a 'beat the grid' challenge answering as many differentiated questions as they can within 10 minutes. A worksheet exercise then takes place to apply and reinforce knowledge based on the content of the lesson. The plenary is based on students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives. This lesson includes timers and animation to promote pace, and all answers are included in the slides to facilitate self/peer marking. This lesson also promotes the correct use of literacy and numeracy through the activities included.

This lesson is based on the Activate 2 (P2.2) SOW but can be used for others. The lesson covers the law of conservation of energy, different energy stores, energy transfer and dissipation. Learning is assessed at 3 stages using think pair and share, an energy store match up, and a 4 mark question to answer. Students are scaffolded up to each task, and answers are included to allow self/peer assessment. The practical activity involves 6 small experiments that the students must visit, observe energy transfers and explain their observations within a table. Extension questions are included for those who finish early, again the answers are included within the slides. The plenary involves students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives.

Students complete a table and various tasks as you progress through the slides focusing on the spread of each disease, the treatment and symptoms. A full differentiated lesson based on the activate 2 (P3.3) SOW but can be used for others. The lesson covers pressure in gases and the effects of volume and temperature. Student understanding is checked with a differentiated question grid challenge. Atmospheric pressure is introduced ahead on the 'crushing can' demonstration - very easy; a can, water, tongues and bunsen burner is required (youtube for demo). Students then reorder statements to explain their observations. The effect of altitude on gas pressure is then discussed with use of examples. The plenary is an 'articulate' activity where students make logical and scientific speeches making use of key words from the lesson. Those with the most key words used can be given a reward. This lesson includes all answers for self/peer assessment and no additional worksheets are required. The use of animation and the choice of topics to explain each theory were chosen with an emphasis on promoting a love of learning. Timers are included to promote pace.

The lesson then covers tumour formation, benign vs. malignant tumours and the causes of cancer. A differentiated question grid is then used to apply knowledge/conduct AFL. The treatment of cancer is then covered followed by a PP question. Video, gif images and standard pictures/news articles are used throughout to maintain interest and focus. This lesson is particularly appealing to visual earners. All answers are included in the slides via animation facilitating questioning during self/peer assessment.
