This turns into a nice book when copied onto both sides of one sheet. We learn that the word for 'this' in Spanish is different for masculine and feminine words. Then we revise recognising masculine and feminine words and get the sentences correct together. In the books it is pencil first, then pen, then test each other on the sentences using the pictures as prompts.

Consider why the alphabet is useful. Practice the vowels in a catchy chant. Go through the sounds of the Spanish alphabet. Practice spelling words to your classmates. Think about spelling and how you feel about it. Spell out your names. Play the alphabet challenge with a friend.

Learners need to place their treasure and hunt for it using coordinates. Clues can be given out using the hot, warm, cold system, which can then transform into a physical game in a large room.

For anyone not familiar with the game uno, your object is to be the first to get rid of your cards, having put down on a similar colour or number/ instruction. These cards have no number figures or colours, just words, so before the children play they may choose to colour the cards and add the symbols, or they can just cut them out and play as they are. I encourage learners to say the Spanish aloud and challenge each other on the meaning.

Lots of profesiones are strong cognates. Use this video to introduce some vocabulario de los profesiones to your estudiantes. Play the video with the sound only first, and use the pause button to give los estudiantes la oportunidad to answer the challenges, and then write their own. Children work with professions cognates, eg soy recepcionista en un hotel, creating memory cards they can use to play matching pairs games with friends/ test each other with.
