This is a 5 lesson scheme of work for teaching African Drumming. This resource includes the SOW, PowerPoints for each lesson and a detailed topic booklet that includes all the activities. I use this SOW with Year 8 but it could be used for any KS3 or KS4 class. There is a strong focus on keywords and also the technique for performing on Djembes. Requires Djembes but could be adapted for use with other percussion instruments.

This is an 8 lesson scheme of work to teach students how to compose chord patterns and melodies. Comes with a topic booklet, assessment criteria and PowerPoints for each lesson. In this topic students are taught: difference between diatonic and chromatic harmony composing diatonic chord patterns how to compose a contrasting chord pattern (relative minor, tonic minor) how to perform chords (block, rhythmic, broken, arpeggios, bass notes & inversions) what makes an effective melody how to compose diatonic melodies how to develop and extend a melodic idea (repetition, steps, leaps, addition, subtraction, phrasing, question & answer, chromaticism & sequences) Topic culminates in performance of composition. This is a 5 week scheme of work to teach Film Music. This includes a topic workbook, PowerPoints for all the lessons (including audio & videos), a scheme of work and a teacher assessment sheet. This scheme of work is suitable for both KS3 & KS4 students and covers a range of musical features and vocabulary. Students have the opportunity to learn about and compose a leitmotif as well as music to accompany a film clip (Fast & Furious).
