Full 37 page work booklet that can be printed as individual activities used as a whole. Contains chapter questions and activities related to each section of the book, Chinese Cinderella. I used this in conjunction with the Audible recording of the novel so students could hear the author herself read the book.

An exploration of the concepts of healthy relationships and “star-crossed” lovers through a comparison of the modern film “Fault in our Stars” and the classic “Romeo and Juliet.” Complete scene by scene analysis for the Shakespearian classic, including delving into literary techniques such as foreshadowing and the tragic hero. To engage a challenging class in English studies, I made use of the Troll Hunters series on Netflix and linked it to the skills and knowledge they required for their assessment tasks. The unit specifically focused on Genres and this series incorporates a number of genres and English language techniques (such as allegory, metaphor, foreshadowing, allusion etc) as well as great vocabulary.

Take a break from Boy in the Striped PJs - I highly recommend using Briar Rose as your historical novel study when examining WWII historical literature. Each chapter in the book is examined and the literary techniques explained. Powerpoints that match the student booklets and include video links are included in this pack of teaching materials. A complete unit created for the IB program with a comparison assessment to Jojo Rabbit but can be used with any curriculum. Created for a mixed ability year 10 class.

A two week unit where students explore the Grimm Brothers’ Sleeping Beauty and the film Maleficent. Literary techniques of allusion and juxtaposition are specifically highlighted, along with story morals. The unit includes a structure for writing a comparison that can help students who struggle as well as the directions for an assessment task. Created for a year 10 class of mixed abilities.
