A lesson to recognise the value of 4 digit numbers.
You will need: a whiteboard, whiteboard pen, place value chart.
Once outside, teacher/TA gives a number. Can the children write it on their whiteboard?
Then, you must gather sticks, leaves, stones (whatever you can find) to partition the number!

Focus: to compare 4-digit numbers.
/Insert headteacher’s name/ wants to order furniture for Class 6 so that it looks like Class 7- and she needs your help!
You must choose the cheapest option for each piece of furniture.
Look at /Insert headteacher’s name/ shopping list and choose an item.
Look at the prices for that item.
Write each number on a place value chart to compare the numbers.
Decide which is the cheapest item. This is the lowest price, so the lowest number.
Add the item and price to your order form.

Next, show it with counters on a place value chart.
Finally, can you match the pictorial representations?
