A well presented lesson with accompanying student worksheets on Motte and Bailey castles created for KS3 history students on Microsoft Powerpoint A little about the lesson This lesson focuses on the first castles that were built in England following William the Conquerors success at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Not only does it look at the features of Motte and Bailey castles but it also looks at the strengths and weaknesses of these castles and students begin to consider how they were used to help William establish control of England. This lesson has been created with KS3 secondary history students in mind and is the first lesson in my Holocaust unit of work. This lesson has been created on Microsoft Powerpoint and the accompanying student handout and worksheet has been created on Powerpoint also. . Teacher Notes & Answers have been added to the notes section underneath each relevant slide on the Powerpoint. This resource slowly introduces students to the topic of the Holocaust using skills of inference on a historical artefact and through controlled classroom discussion. Students work on a single historical artefact individually/in pairs/as a class - whichever you feel suits your class best and build a picture of a person - they then have this put into greater perspective for them. The utmost care has been taken to ensure this resource has been created with the utmost respect to the victims of the holocaust and to ensure that students have the opportunity to connect and empathise to the human beings to whom the attrocities of the holocaust were committed. There a no images or corpses in this resource - however the murder of victims is discussed. This lesson includes suggested learning objectives and outcomes and has been designed to be taught over the course of one hour. I really hope you enjoy teaching this lesson as much as I do! This lesson is designed for my current Y11 students starting AQA Paper 1 (Old Spec). It covers the content to the event in steps which studentscan work on either independently or in groups. The activity for this can be structured in a carousel if you wish. The event has been broken down in simple points as students can sometimes get a little confused with the names and agendas of people in Anschluss. Each step is accompanied by images to prompt memory. Quick AFL checkpoint in the form of a Pop Quiz is in there. The penultimate task in this lesson is for students to become familiar with the 10 mark question on Paper 1. Students are provided with the answer and have to figure out the exam technique behind it. What do they need to do and what do they not need to do. The question allows students to use prior knowledge of the Rhineland crisis and students then need to consider which event was more significant in causing ww2. This lesson is the first in my SOW following William of Normandy’s ascension to the English throne in 1066. The lesson focuses heavily on Williams problems now that he is a foreign ruler in England in 1066 having conquered its people by force. It looks at the problems William may face and gets students to consider their solutions. Students then demonstrate their learning by practicing a 4 mark describe question (New AQA exam technique) Peer assessment can easily be incorporated for efficient marking. This lesson looks at President Hoover’s Reaction to the 1930s depression. The lesson begins with a team pop quiz - students then look at the things hoover did and did not to challenge the Great Depression. This is a lesson which develops students skills of team work and independent enquiry. Students begin with a team quiz! Students pose their own enquiry (or choose from 2 enquiry questions on the board) based on the ‘hook’ (video). As a team of detectives. Students explore different elements of organised crime with constant focus on their enquiry question. High quality resources (maps/written pieces/statistics) make up the 6 sources. This lesson is designed to fit over an hour. It informs students about the April 1938 Anschluss. Students look at the story and events of the Anschluss and how its outcomes led to WW2 being more likley. In this lesson I introduced the Paper 1 10 mark question and supplied students with a model answer to break down into a plan. I work with students to highlight the many points made on each argument and review the paper again to get students to highlight the key language and words used in the text to promote each point as the most significant In addition to this there is a mini Pop Quiz to check understanding. This lesson is designed for my current Y11 students starting AQA Paper 1 (Old Spec). It covers the content to the event through a detailed piece of writing which students work on independently at first. Students then use the resources to complete the table explaining how each event made WW2 more likely in preparation to answer a 10 mark question. Students then answer a 10 mark question using their tables and previous experience to guide them. A plan is provided on a word doc to help structure their answer. Finally students make a judgment on whether or not the collapse of Czech was inevitable following the Munich Agreement linking their ideas about appeasement. Please review!

This lesson introduces students to the idea of the stock market and how it works -initially through a brief video and followed by a game students can play independently/in pairs or in groups/ were students can experience the stock market. Exam technique covered in this lesson is the 4 mark question. Although this lesson is designed for the new spec it could easily work with the old spec too. Speculation on the stock market is a really difficult concept for students to understand. This lesson is designed to be taught over 2 - 3 hours as not only does it explore the roles of women and the changes they experiences in the 1920s but it also looks at new Paper 1D Q1 - 3 Interpretations exam technique. The lesson provides the following. An overview through video on how life for women changed. Card Sort looking at whether life changed for all women & were there some limitations. 4/8 and 12 mark question. The ppt offers further extension and exploration of 2 interpretations (provided by AQA for the new spec) on how life for women changed in the 1920s. Mark Schemes are also provided for each of the 3 questions to support in accordance to the new spec assessment. It affords students the opportunity to practice a 6 mark question on the causes of the economic boom. A student worksheet is provided at the bottom of the ppt for students to make notes on whilst revising if they wish.

This lesson has been devised for the purpose of giving the new Y6's on transition week a taste of the model and structure of history lessons. There is plenty emphasis on engagement and routine. AFL activities are incorporated into the lesson as are carousel activities, people bingo, sound clips and video links for engaging starters. This resource is designed as an introductory lesson to life in 1066 (prior to your hastings lessons) to help Y7 students understand the differences between medieval england and england today. This is the third lesson in my SOW for Y7 which introduces students to the 4 key areas of life in 1066 and (monarchy/religion/the people/law and order) and focuses on improving literacy skills (PEE paragraphs) in history using clear and engaging scaffolds. The lesson is ideal for paired/group work and was originally planned for a mixed ability group.
