Who it’s for : This reading comprehension is for teachers who are teaching a higher level of French. It is good for students with good French reading and speaking skills, as it talks about the current French movement : the Yellow Vests. **Included : ** A reading comprehension about the Yellow Vests. A vocabulary search from the text. (Vocabulary that the students can re-use in their speaking and writing) A true and false exercise. Questions about the text (2) and questions for them to think about the movement and their country. Full correction of the 3 exercises. The learning objectives : Comprehend the actual situation of France. Identify where the problems are coming from/ what the problems are. Examine and investigate how we can solve the problems. Other information: I also recorded myself reading the text so the students have a better idea on how to pronounce some of the words they might not be sure about. There is also a video that I uploaded. It is also a good exercise for your students as it shows different “messages” that they can analyse. (Some of the photos are repeated in the video) This exercise is excellent for: (i)GCSE and GCSE students with high abilities AS Level A Level Ab Initio Language B This exercise matches all types of curricula as it is part of the “Economic and Social Development” of France. Practical tips : Some of the questions in exercise 2 can be used as a speaking task. Exercise 1 can be done with or without a dictionary.

Who it is for : Teachers who would like to use the imperfect and the present perfect tense in French in a different way that is to say through a tale. I adapted that tale from a French website for students in KS3-4 Included: Word and PDF versions of the tale Word and PDT versions of the correction Useful for revising or assessing students knowledge on the imperfect or present perfect tense. You can also plan around the exercises if you like. Here are the instructions for each exercise: Exercice 1 : Mets les verbes ci-dessous au bon endroit Exercice 2 : Conjugue les verbes au passé composé ou à l’imparfait. Exercice 3 : Conjugue les verbes à l’imparfait. Exercice 4 : Mets les phrases dans le bon ordre pour savoir la fin du conte Learning objectives: Comprehend the story Identify when to use the two different tenses Demonstrate your understanding through the different exercises I have provided some pictures that can help the students understand what the tale is about. Curricula : All I would not advise to send this worksheet as a homework as it can be challenging for some students. Who it’s for Teachers doing a recap with KS3 students about the topic : “Je me présente” What’s included A reading about Julie. She introduces herself, her parents, her brother and talk about school, and what she does after school. Exercises (3) and a writing to do. For students with low ability, I have underlined the words they need to change. Correction for all the exercises and a suggestion on how to correct the writing. Learning objectives Analyse and recognise words and sentences from the topic Use words they know or new words into their own writing Comprehend that words expressing opinions and other grammar points are important. It shows their understanding of the language and their ability. Produce a similar type of text about them differentiation opportunities When evaluating the answers to the questions, you can allow just words or sentences depending on the level of the students. I also underlined words that the students need to change to adapt the writing. Curriculum : All Practical tips Could be used as an end of term exam, or part of an end of year exam. I wouldn’t advise to give the full activity as a homework as students may need some guidance on the writing.

After the explanation of the grammar point, you can leave the students to work on their own as the exercises can definitely be done independently. It worked quite with my homeschoolers. The lesson as well as the exercises were thought to gradually understand the grammar point and practice with leveled exercises. What’s included: Infographics with a recap of the grammar point Worksheet (leveled) with 10 exercises in total in Word document and PDF The sentences used for each exercise are themed. In the worksheet, you can find these themes: Healthy Food, Food, Employment in France, Festivals, Shopping, Travels, and School. Why is it useful: For any types of curriculum, the passive or active voices come in exams. I find it very useful for AS Level students taking their exam with CIE, as they are asked to rephrase sentences in which this grammar point often appears. Learning objectives: Understand the sentence structure and the grammatical terms Recognise the passive and active voice Analyse the sentence structure Comprehend the pattern of the sentence transformation Produce sentences in the active and passive voice Rephrase from active to passive and passive to active Differentiation opportunities: Levelled activities Use of colours to show the sentence structure in the active and passive voice Infographic that students can use for practice Curriculum: CIE NC Language B (IB) Practical tips: I would recommend assisting the students during the lesson even if the activities can be done independently. The colour documents are better but I completely understand if you cannot print colour for an entire class! You can display it on an interactive whiteboard too!
