Revising the GCSE topic of towns with the intercultural context of the city of Valencia. PPT with a wide range of activities and a worksheet with ample opportunity for students to meet the new language, manipulate and make language their own. Do Now: True or false activity. Students are to decide if each of the facts are true or false. As a challenge, can some correct the false sentences? Choral repetition: Students are to listen to the teacher’s pronunciation and repeat. Choral repetition games (ideas): Splat; Beat the Teacher; Guess the correct image; have a pronunciation competition on both sides. Students are to fill-in the gaps with the correct letters. Video task: Students are to watch the video about the Top 10 attractions in Valencia and they are to answer the questions in English. Match-up task: Students are to match the two halves. Independent work: Part 1 Vocabulary: Students are to match the photos with the words. Then, they are to write the English equivalent in the second box. Part 2 Reading Comprehension: Students are to read the text and answer the questions in English. Part 3 Writing: Students are to write a paragraph about their holiday in Valencia using the text from part 2 to help them. They must include adjectives, connectives, opinions and vocabulary from this lesson. Self Assessment: Students are to write one WWW and one NS to self-assess their writing. Plenary: Quiz!

Do Now: Students are to translate 1-5 into English and 6-10 into Spanish to recap the vocabulary that they learned from last lesson (see my Beginners Spanish lesson “Los saludos”). Choral repetition: Students are to listen to the teacher’s pronunciation and repeat. Choral repetition games (ideas!): Splat, Beat the Teacher, pronunciation competition between the two sides, guess the correct image, translation dictation exercise where teacher calls out a word/phrase in English and students are to write the Spanish and vice versa. Fill-in the gaps with the correct letters. Match-up task: Students are to match the Spanish with the English equivalent. Dialogue: Teacher to model the dialogue with a student. Then, students are to create their own dialogue with their partner. Independent work: Part 1: Vocabulary - students are to find the words in the wordsearch, then they are to translate them. Part 2: Translation - (i) students are to reorder the sentences, then translate them into English. - (ii) students are to translate the sentences into Spanish. Plenary: Students are to close their books and have their arms crossed. They will have 10 seconds before the sentence disappears on screen. Once it has disappeared, they are to write each sentence down. Challenge: See if they can translate the words/phrases into English too in the time allocated.

Some activities include: True or false - students will be provided with facts about Spain and they are to use their true or false cards to select their responses. (This could also be done on their mini whiteboards). Challenge: Students are to correct the false statements. La Tomatina - Students are to watch the video about Buñol’s Tomatina festival and answer the questions in English.
