Foundation 1st Drawing Stage

Foundation 1st Drawing Stage

A comprehensive introduction for those who are at the very beginning stage of drawing and would assess their current ability as: 'I can't even draw a stick man!' The download contains video tutorials, presentations and exercises. As its name suggests, Foundation pre-stage drawing is the level I would place people on who are complete novices. Contained in these tutorials are lessons about how to shade simple shapes, some basic drawing tips and your very first drawing lessons for the stick man artists out there. Typically, students working at this stage will be aged 7-9 or completely lack the confidence to draw anything. The download contains: Basic Tips in drawing, Drawing Simple Shapes, Shading Part 1a; Flat tones, Shading Part 1b; Light to Dark, Cartoon Drawing. Also provided are worksheets, baseline test and assessment sheets. Contains 5 Windows format videos, 5 Powerpoint presentations and a fully illustrated marking sheet. This is an NSEAD recommended resource.
Media Pop Art

Media Pop Art

Pop Art gets a 21st Century facelift! This a Contemporary Scheme aimed at improving thinking skills and asks deep, Essential Questions of your students to learn how Modern Art has evolved into a thriving contemporary movement. And instead of just making a bland Pop Art style picture, the students are challenged to think about how the media affects their life. I’ve taught this unit to young children and exam classes alike with great results. Crucial to the project's success is the student refining and developing their ideas in light of peer and self evaluation. Includes resources on thinking skills and the 'Pointless' game to help you teach the thinking skills your students need. This project is very motivational and can be used year after year with constantly different results, my students loved it.

Learn about the fabulous birds of New Guinea and how they have evolved into some of the most stunning creatures on the planet. Teach sketchbook recording techniques, art methods and my own technique of making birds using PVA glue. This is a lovely craft project for younger art students and is such a huge topic, it can easily be developed into a cross-curricular theme with science, geography and maths. One for younger children.

A project that combines digital techniques with observational drawing. The lesson teaches students how to use Adobe Photoshop Elements by means of a detailed step-by-step exercise. You can use free online software if you don’t have Photoshop (links included). There is also a detailed guide to drawing faces from observation with supporting worksheets. The skills are then combined into a fun Surrealist Dream project. This is especially liked by the boys, they LOVE doing the Photoshop side of the project. I've had great results teaching this project and so will you. It also comes with links to artist resources on Pinterest.

For those who would assess their current ability as: “I can draw the basics ok, such as drawing outlines of shapes, but I need help with some areas such as how to shade etc.” Here I show you how to combine geometry, measuring and shading skills from the first two stages into observational drawing of simple still life shapes. This stage is a significant step towards understanding observational drawing. How can you teach pupils how to generate high quality ideas in art? What different types of ideas are there in art and how can you easily demonstrate to pupils what they look like? This entirely original concept has been produced by me from years of teaching original art. 50 Artists Primary pupils should know
paulcarney700paulcarney700

50 Artists Primary pupils should know

(0)
Famous Western Artists Primary K-6 pupils should know. By this I mean that they should have seen images by these artists and remember key details about when and where they lived. These artists could support work done in other subject areas. All dates are approximate. It is not suggested that Primary K-6 students should know every artist on this list, but rather that they should know and understand the main movements and how art has changed. There is a great activity I have written that does this called my art timeline game which is available to download free from my website. There are also too many brilliant artists not mentioned here that I have omitted to keep things simple. By the time we get to Contemporary art you can pretty much choose what you like! The resource contains a link to all the images you need via Google Art Institute.

I designed this scheme of work nearly ten years ago and it is still as interesting and exciting now as it was then. It combines brilliantly with science lessons about life on other planets. It teaches young people how to design within design constraints, use their imagination and think about how different life evolves. Use it with my Alien Landscape project to get the full effect.

This is a great drawing lesson that really extends your students' understanding of drawing and helps them take their first steps into abstraction and expression. You might need to adapt it to suit the literacy level of your pupils, but it is suitable for Key Stage 2 or 3, in fact I've seen it adapted for KS1. Included in this presentation are links to artists work. For more fantastic art resources visit my TES store https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/paulcarney700
